The trouble with joining the army is that you're at the mercy of the politicians as to who you have to go and fight. Defending your country when it's under threat of invasion from an enemy commiting genocide as in WW2 is one thing, but then you might find you're sent off to bomb the hell out of a bunch of innocent Iraqis. One good thing to come out of the EU is that we don't have any enemies likely to invade us, so there is less justification for a Ministry of Defence (or should that be Ministry of Attack?)

It is at the mercy of the politicians i agree.. they make the choices we probably would never want to make... These have good and bad outcomes obviously ... now in the mist of history we can say WW2 was 'worth it' .. is this what you believe ?.. i do. That is why personaly i am not shying away from the realities of this current 'war' and hope in the end it is 'worth it'.

 

Id just like to say that its extremley dangerous to join the army when there's a war on, especially when we're fighting with the americans.

We went to war to defend Poland because of some treaty or the other ... we didn't know anything about the holocaust at the time.

In hindsight we look at it as a necessary war ... however the more I read the more it seems that Hitler's rise to power could have been prevented ... The whole management and creation of the post WW1 Weimar Republic was like an accident waiting to happen.

I really don't know enough to say more, but it does seem that the one thing we learn from history is that we seem to learn nothing from history.

 

Oh i think we learn from history.. just both sides don't read the same history books.
