Man Fires On Police With AK-47 After Refusing To Wear A Mask: Officials
Adam Zaborowski's attorney says he was "just not handling the pandemic well".


Authorities have arrested a Pennsylvania man after he allegedly fired on police with an AK-47 a day after shooting at a store clerk who asked him to wear a face mask.

Adam Zaborowski, 35, opened fire on three local and state police officers when they pulled him over near his Slatington home the day after the store shooting, Pennsylvania state police said in a statement.


Zaborowski was shot at least twice and arrested. He’s expected to fully recover. An officer was left with bullet fragments in the arm.

The violence comes amid a spate of ugly confrontations involving Americans refusing to wear face masks to help stem the spread of COVID-19.

Zaborowski was “just not handling the pandemic well,” his attorney, John Waldron, explained Sunday to Lehigh Valley Live. “I know there’s been some stressors in his life — I don’t mean that as an excuse,” Waldron told The Morning Call.

“The fact that he got shot twice with non-life-threatening injures when he had an AK-47 and another handgun, Adam is very fortunate he ended up the way he did,” Waldron said.

The string of incidents began last Friday at a cigar shop in Bethlehem Township when a store clerk told Zaborowski to put on a mask. A witness in the store told WFZM-TV that Zaborowski whipped out what he claimed was a copy of an order from the governor saying he didn’t need to wear one. The state requires masks in public places, including stores.

As the clerk argued with Zaborowski, he allegedly grabbed a couple of cigars and walked out. When the clerk followed him to the parking lot, police reported that Zaborowski pulled out a semiautomatic handgun and shot once in the air and twice at the clerk, who escaped injury. Police released video of the shooting, which can be seen above.

“It’s crazy, just crazy,” the store witness told WFZM. “It’s the mask. The guy was obviously anti-mask.”

Zaborowski has been charged with 22 crimes, including seven counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and robbery, and is being held on $1 million bail.

He is banned from possessing firearms in Pennsylvania because of a previous aggravated assault case, police said.

 

I suppose a riot where nobody dies these days is considered one of the worst lol. You really are living in a cave aren't you bud?

While he was almost certainly a Trump supporter (they tend to be emotionally unstable) It was probably a case
of suicide-by-cop.

Zaborowski lost his job due to the COVID-19 and recently lost custody of his child.

He was pissed, angry with the world, soon to be homeless, and saw no other solution other than going out
in a blaze of glory.

 

I don't see anything about this guy being a Trump supporter. Perhaps he is, perhaps he isn't. Did you just make it up? Fake news!

 

I think it's easy to get drawn into the division between a God-fearing American who owns a gun and believes he's entitled to it, and the God-fearing Americans who believe that guns are an endangerment to our society that needs to be contained. & when we hear about a Trump supporter, gun-toting no less, we assume he is a belligerent know-nothing backwards bigoted fool and we're conditioned (by the media, social media, our thoughts and conversations, or whatever else) to be ultimately dismissive of whatever the individual actually has to say.

In this particular case it's pretty cut and dried - he fired on police. I think that calls for justice.

But don't we always always always shoot down the Trump supporter? I fear we do it without even hearing what he's trying to say. Maybe if we put some of what they (Trump supporters) say into different words that we find more palatable we would be able to reach across the aisle and come to some semblance of agreement with our opposition.

 

I remember the photo of the guy and the clerk from an article I read. I just get a bad feeling about cases like this. I feel like mental illness is likely playing its part...

 

You’re right there’s no definitive proof that he’s a trump supporter, so let’s analyze the situation:


He’s white
He’s a card-carrying member of the NRA
He lives in Hicksville Pennsylvania
He owns an AK-47 assault rifle
He’s separated from his wife
He lost his child in an ugly custody battle
He recently lost his job
He lives in district that in 2016 voted overwhelmingly for Trump
And once again, he’s white

He is 35. Some of you need to maintain the idea that most young people are still very committed to mask wearing and doing everything they can to stop the spread of the virus...so a bunch of oldies don't die

It gives you a safer feeling to believe he is fringe in some way
