Right out the gate I am setting this up as a problem by calling a group different from me "idiots".

The United States political system is in jeopardy - it has been in slow decline for awhile but these last 6-7 years have been staggering as the divide between left and right continues to widen.

I would love to see us find common ground and figure out a way to work together.
This political season has been rough -
The number of people who disregard the problem seems to be growing.
There seems to be the need to focus on the immediate issue vs the long term.

I have argued that if we don't stand strong on fixing the long term - which is to discredit and even punish the election deniers of 2020, the liars who continue to support the lie - those who want to force us all to live under the dome of Christian nationalism...

I try to weather the storm of disagreements with those who view the cost of gas and food and baby formula as more important than the cost of losing our democracy. I also think the other side has focused too much on Abortion. Every one of us who will vote Blue knows this is a huge issue, but it is a hot button issue, too.
    Deflect and focus... they aren't.
I struggle with the notion that it is Biden's fault, and it is the Democrats fault - when inflation seems to be an issue everywhere... and yes, it is even Hillary's fault. Still.
But I don't recall Hillary instigating a riot because she won the popular vote in 2016 but lost the Electoral count.

Why is what happened from November 2020 to January 2021 and beyond not important to us?
    It sure is for me.

Politics has become a debate over which end of the dead horse to beat, just grab a fiddle and some marshmallows.

I'm not really following the dead horse and Nero metaphors. Are you seriously trying to suggest that politics or the goals of politics are a dead horse (i.e., no longer of any use to discuss ; debating political issues is futile, cuz we're not going to change anything.) So we might just as well grab some popcorn, sit back and watch the show? That attitude is an open invitation to bad government.

It has gotten to the point where I cannot even become informed properly with political issues because every time I see anything with the political aesthetic my brain switches completely off no matter which side of the spectrum if it's politics I automatically hate the person and remove myself from the situation

There certainly is a lot at stake here. On a bad day it looks to me like Americans have a level of intelligence that is a mile wide and an inch deep when it comes to lies that are the staple for T—- and the Republican Party. There seems to a lack of ability to withstand the blizzard of shit that is incoming on the internet….much less separate real issues from a mob of Trojan horses. I have to believe that in the light of day more people will think the future of our earth is more important than the price of gas for the latest gas guzzler parked in the driveway. Besides, contrary to capitalism and it’s pillars of lies, the oil companies set prices with a political motivation rather than any real supply/demand factors.

Look at the pump price in progressive states like Washington, Oregon, California Vermont versus Idaho, Mississippi, and Oklahoma. These differences are not explained by a difference in State gas taxes or real costs of production. And this summer, yet again, we heard about the fabricated refinery maintenance and repairs on the West Coast. Issues that disappear the closer one gets to Idaho or Wyoming. The obscene profits of oil companies are long overdue for a close look. We need an economy based on a longer timer horizon rather than the next merger or dividend cycle. By the way, our Washington Governor has not assaulted any reporters…big sky news.

It’s time for a renewed emphasis on community, sustainability, and the value of all the creatures we share the earth with. Economists like Robert Reich and Lester Thurow long ago called bullshit on the propaganda you will see on tomorrow’s political ads.

While I deeply regret the Balkanization of America, a gentlemanly "agreeing to disagree" is for issues like football and pizza toppings. When it comes to the defense of democracy and basic human rights, I'm completely unwilling to compromise, or to give the other side the benefit of the doubt. The last time we treated Fascism with forbearance, courtesy, and consideration, 60 million people died.

I am not from the USA. Stepdad was in our air force which made a NATO man of him. When he watched the mob assaulting the US capitol he looked like he was going to fall off his armchair because this, this was absolutely nonsense in his mindset, such things happen in south America, not in the USA. Now that such an egregious act of political delinquency is going to go unpunished can only mean that your political immune system has failed and unless fixed that's not going to end in a nice way. I expected your government to make quick work of Trump and his clique of coupists, but I was wrong. Now it is only a matter of time before someone attempts that stunt again, maybe to an effect.

This was posted before the election when we were all fearing the coming Red Wave. Lo and behold it didn't happen, though the GOP gained a small majority in the House. We did discredit and punish the election deniers by not electing them. It appears that we have found common ground and the MAGA era is winding down.

The divisions in the American people were always there, but Trump made it clear how bad the situation was. Hopefully, knowing this will help us narrow the rift.

Why i don’t live in the united states. I can honestly say that the situation there and here in my country is something I have never known. The world seems to be about to implode. Opinions have become fact, truth has become opinion. There is a lack of intelligence and common sense. Which has been replaced by hate and anger. Seeing the current state of the word and reading about it has me angry, frustrated, sad and worried and sometimes feeling deeply misanthropic. This why for my wellbeing and others :D i try not to focus on it to much.

I understand your feelings well. I've been around a pretty long time now, and I can honestly say that I've never seen as much intolerance as I've seen these past 10 years in social interaction.
