Are You Spontaeous Or Calculating?

I think everyone is more likely to be a combination of both. Even when being spontaneous there is still an expected result from being so.

I also think there is a difference between being calculating and being manipulative. Sometimes those two have a blurred line.

 

i'm sort of paranoid of not being super cautious. its just how i grew up for various reasons.
i don't really trust spontoniety, unless its in the limited context of creating things,
mostly 'art' (images of my world building), although exploring anonymously alone i have no problem with.

i'm not interested in trying to manipulate individuals though, only in the kind of world we all have to live in.
i really don't care about popularity, mine or anyone else's.
i care about other people's happiness, about not being a cause of their lack of it.
but that's not about wanting to be thought of some particular way,
but again, the kind of world we, myself along with everyone else, have to live in.

i really think consideration is more important then how some individual thinks of me as a result.
again its all about the statistical mechanism by which we all participate in creating how the world we each have to experience,
comes to be the way it is.

 

Anyone know a way to meet new people that want to camp out long term? Hippie, happy living.

 

Spontaneous or calculating...either way can be bad news when it comes to someone having made me angry.

Spontaneous fun is always best, though.

I think most people fall in the middle of having more a calculating and spontaneous personality and approach on life. But, I also think there are raities, in which there are people like yourself, OP, that are more spontaneous. Same goes for raities that are more calculating. As for myself, I think I'm one of the many that fall right in the middle. I have been told that I am very through with what I say to others, so that can be described as calculating. But, I also have been told that I am weird, unpredictable, wild, fun, crazy (in a good way), which are all words to describe spontaneous. So, I guess it depends on the day, the situation, maybe even the person, etc. Like I said I would say both. Of course, you do have to realize that people are more or less than these catorgies, groups, classes, that so many other people want us to be in. People just don't work like that.

I do want to add one last thing, which is I don't think anyone who is calculating is manipulative. Maybe it's my notion that everyone is good, unless the person suffers from a personality shift, such as they're psychotic or something. But, I just don't think people are manipulative. I think we all can use manipulating traits or have manipulating moments. But, it's like being judgemental vs. judging. We all judge, but not everyone is judgemental. I think we all encountered manpulating behavior in our lifetime, and we all have done manpulating things, but to truly encounter someone that is manpulative or for us to truly be manipulative, that is rare, I think. Same goes for us judging vs. being judgemental, or encountering someone that is judgemental.

 

i don't get the basis for the assumption that anyone would have to be manipulative to not be mindlessly spontaneous.

i'd gladly hug everybody if i didn't think they would beat me over the head,
or think i as trying to be a perv and think that gave them a reason to.

i'm just not that interested in individuals to want to manipulate them.
there's no point for me, for what i want in life, that i would want to.

affection is nice if its real.

but a world were everyone can enjoy the gratifications of creating and exploring, without anxiety or stress, would be a lot more interesting to me.

 

I probably think of myself as trending towards calculating, although I think it's more being deliberate, like the distinction Meliai made. I can be quite spontaneous as well though, I guess I'm fairly complex in regards to this dichotomy, really depends on the situation and even then I'd likely still be generalizing.

In your first sentence, where was that assumption made on this thread?
I have heard expressions like this..."They took the bait..."
I did not realize having a discussion with anyone about anything here was taking some sort of bait....makes it kind of hard to want to talk to anyone thinking I may be taking their bait....and maybe some think they may be taking my bait if they talk to me, as well....
These kinds of things are what i am talking about....
I talk to people to have discussions to see things in new ways, if that is possible....to sort out my own thinkings and feelings....to take a break from the chores around here, etc. i don't come here to play "nefarious" games.....

I don't know if I'm a calculator so much as I go into a zen like trance until the right thing springs to mind.

 

I like to over prepare, and then go with the flow.

I also have an impulsive side that HAS gotten me into trouble in the past. I think that stems from my ADD, though.

 

to answer, my perspective does not make this connection between calculating and manipulative.
the assumption that not being spontaneous, has to, or is even likely to mean or require being manipulative.
this is a connection that to me "does not compute"

to me, not being spontaneous means being cautious, its even a matter of being considerate. spontenaity to me implies overlooking caution and consideration.
i know that makes me no fun at parties or something, but this is how i grew up seeing.
i mean it comes from observing. if people want to think my eyes are twisted or something, but this is what i observe.
i just can never trust the idea of spontaneity, and most of what i've seen in life, gives me reason not to.

this is also why i can never get into mind altering substances (but fine with other people doing so as long as they don't use them as an excuse to be annoying)
but do 'obsess' with how we (together) create the kind of world we all (individually) have to live in.
