I think the poll needs an extra category “sometimes I am proud of my country". I am not so proud of the 14 place in education out of 43 countries, not so proud of the 34 place in health care (last place of the 34 surveyed), not so proud of the 23 place for overall happiest, or the 37th place for quality of life. These numbers pail to the not so proud of going to war in what look more like another politicians or religious war, or the religious right continued push into the government. This is not such a long list when I look at the thing I am proud of as an American.
Well myself BEING TOTALLY AWAKE,i am disgusted by what this country is doing to the world!!!! ILLEGIAL DRONE KILLINGS (No one has killed as many INNOCENTS as US forces have and its sickening) Trying to force themselves ON EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD!!!!!! (No wonder everyone hates this country)
It's sad, but I don't. I love the true message of America. To believe in what you want to, do what you want. But it's so corrupted by power hungry bigots, that it's a very disgusting system. No, I am not proud of my country.
The USA is a big and complicated country, so it has a lot of good and bad qualities at the same time. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't see us ever reaching our full potential, which is very high. All things considered, there's nowhere else I want to go. Every place has problems, which often look smaller from a distance.
I am proud that my country is still a place where people can freely discuss the things about it that need to be fixed, and I'm proud of its ideals as a place of equality and opportunity. That said, you have to be blind not to see that we have problems. I'm not proud when we kill civilians at a wedding in Afghanistan, or when an obviously mentally unstable person can obtain an arsenal of guns and shoot up a movie theater. So the poll does not have enough options. There should be one: "Proud for what America stands for but not always proud of what it does."
to me a country is just a place where i am. nationalism is illogical and a false god. i doubt if there is any country that wouldn't make me ashamed of it at least part of the time. embarrassment isn't hatred though. i don't hate countries, i'm embarrassed by them.
I fucking hate the United States of America. I hate how my country was founded, I hate how my ancestors were eradicated to the brink of extinction, and I hate how it is the corporate-technocratic-oligarch-military-industrial-complex machine that it is today. The US is a sick ultra-consumer nation of entitlement, who lives off the blood of innocence as if it were sovereign above all.
I do love being American and support America in all sporting events and scientific accomplishments. However I would be embarrassed to travel overseas.
me too man,, me too and yeah canada is a cool place, went there when i was 11 years old. i used to live 30mins drive or so from canada. plus if i remember right: their drinking age is 19!! they know,, what cool is
I think this is very true for Russia also, but more for Soviet Union. I do not wish to use detail, but I am very proud and ashamed with many things from my country now, and its history.
Native American of the Cherokee persuasion here, and I love my country, all it's natural wonders, and all the people deserving of my respect. What I don't like is the freedom stripping government that is racing to be a Police State, and all the real criminals, some that wear suits and ties, and some that are just gangbangers. It's high noon, and time for the criminals to be ousted from their lofty perches, and violent dungeons, and sent packing elsewhere, as we no longer want them here.
I could say the same about Australia................love my country but the suits and politicians SUCK!
I will never be proud of my country. I'm thankful that I was lucky enough to be raised in this country, but I'll never be proud of it.
