so basically what your saying is,that all black people back then were all seen as dishonest and thieving people. i come ta that assumption given the fact that ****** was a predjudice demeaning word used towards all black people by racists and bigots.therefore if a dishonest or theiving whiteman was called a ******.what the person would be really saying to him literally speaking,would be your a dishonest theiving person, like all niggers. cos the only people called niggers were black people.

You say you took it as him being a jackass, like I did. But then, you called him a racist, as if he were serious. That's why I said there was no reason to assume he's actually racist.

Where it seems we are disagreeing is that I think a joke is sometimes just a joke and it should be ignored by all who don't laugh. You obviously, don't think racial matters are fair to joke about. Yet, you have no problem calling me stupid. Why is it more important to respect other races than other people?

not so, the average black person was refered to as a negro in 'polite society' or so we were taught in school. my father and the cherokee side of the family along with my blackfoot cousins were oft refered to as red niggers and hippies as 'white niggers'......

 

I still don't know who is right or wrong as far as Duck etc is concerned - but do know it is easy to thumbs up or down and not be fully able to explain why.

I don't believe I said we so chose so I see no need to explain a non event. We generally refered to folks by thier names seeing as how the odds were they were cousins. I've been discussing the historical usage of the language and customes of the fifties & sixties in the south.

You seemed to be saying you thought it ok to call certain people niggers because your pa taught you, and that it was ok because you earned the right to. I don't wish to misconstrued your words - but would ask why you would choose to call anybody a ******? Are you saying your understanding of the word means that anybody you wish can be called one, and the word isn't actually racially charged? It's perfectly acceptable to use the word because you think you have earned the right to, and therefore it was ok for the KKK to use the word because they earned the right?

i 've given up trying ta get the rational,cos none of it makes any sense to me at all.all i can make of it is that it was seen as acceptable,to the point of being the norm.i find the in "polite society bit" ta mean that everyone waited til their backs were turned ta call them niggers.it sounds like it was all very hypocritical and strangely disturbing.thats my take on it anyway.
