Yes Broony you got that right!!

    A HUGE STEP DOWN!!!!!!!!

I much prefer OLDER GAMES from the 80s -- FAR BETTER IN EVERY ASPECT!

I love it that the whole sandbox idea is worth working out with today's technology. Besides good puzzlegames like Portal I enjoyed Red dead and the Assassins creed games the most. Actually I also love the whole graphics development in FPS. I'm not a multiplayer person though and I'm sure the majority is crap (not sure if that was different back in the day) but I'm selective with games any way. If I don't like the setting already it is not for me (exceptions excluded :p) and how better it looks how more I'm pleased indeed.

A lot of the 'sandbox' games hardly meet the label though. (Especially not Grand Theft Auto)

So far the only truly open games are still the simulation like the Sim series and Spore.

Things like the level editor in Halo: Reach show a lot of progress though.

I really don't want to take sides on the original post. I've bought an xbox and sold it 6 months later. I've always been a sony game console fan. I like the old just as much as i do new. One major difference though is that games are far more mass produced than they were say a decade before. I think this has lead to a lot of games not being as good. That doesn't mean great games are not being made though.

Sports games i think only continue to get better. Race games are incredible in todays game world. I've always played the Gran Turismo games. They have become so detailed. Even some ATV games such as ATV Off Road Furry are so impressive.

I bought NHL 09 and have never played a hockey game in my life. Game is amazing, graphics, difficulty all good. Same with baseball and basketball. They keep improving i don't see them ever get worse. Not all versions, or the companies who make them are good though.

I've never cared for football games but i hear madden is over-rated ever year but the people who are addicted say otherwise.

Games like Metal Gear Solid are less a game and more a movie now days. I remember when 4 Guns of the Patriots came out. The graphics are amazing...some of the best from PS3 IMO. Though the gameplay gets worse because its not long enough. Too much space is put into the 5 to 10 min 'video' that comes up ever 15 mins of gameplay.

Final Fantasy X was the starting of that series go down hill.

Everything that Bethesda makes is fucking top notch. Marrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout are some of my favorites. Those games can't be beat. Its just a whole new platform. One of the best reasons for this is its still a OFFLINE game. These games only get bigger and bigger and extremely complex once you really get into them. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are my favorite releases from the PS3.

I don't want to name all the games but, Orignal NES will always be a favorite. Lots of greats on the N64. PS created a huge variety of greats. Super Mario World, all the Mortal Kombats up to N64, Starfox, Crash bandicoot, Twisted Metal too many to name.

Just now days i think we have to look harder for better games, or wait more. Its rare i ever buy a game because they are so fucking expensive. Though if i wait a year i usually find one maybe two that turn out to be greats.

I don't dig any of these kind of sandbox games :D I guess I just ment large open worlds like in Red dead redemption (not so empty with stuff like GTA though) and Assassins creed. The fact that they had these in combination with that I really love those settings makes me a sucker for those kind of games :p

I have a dream that when all the gimicks of gaming run out

and the industry realizes that graphics really are hitting a ceiling

they'll understand that if their game isn't challenging, innovated, and touching it won't be fun and we won't play it and there will be no cash handed over

the community is just getting stronger where no one will have to accidentally buy a lemon game

as we whine more and actual change our spending habits they'll hear us.

OH and since we're a gaming generation we'll help our kids buy the best games

instead of providing them with cannon fodder graphic bags.

    (I haven't bought a game i didn't enjoy in last year and 1/2) = I haven't bought many games, lol

video games in the 8-bit era and/or 16-bit era were better than current generation video games

32-bit consoles lacked the variety in the choice of the games than the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles

Sega made the best 8-bit and 16-bit game consoles Master System and Genesis/Mega-Drive

Nintendo focused on graphics when they created the SNES the games had limited playability

you gotta be kidding me... SNES blew SEGA out of the water.. the 32x was a lame gimmick.. and the SegaCD was even worse!(minus Popful Mail which is one of the best scrolling RPGs ever).. you obviously haven't played enough snes games

32X and Sega CD were evolutions in gaming unlike the Super Nintendo console

Nintendo couldn't create a suitable CD media for their SNES they relied on Sony

Sega blew NES out of the water because the Master System had better graphics

the Genesis/Mega-Drive blew the SNES out of the water because of the controller

I had a Mega-Drive & SNES I would've played hundreds of games on each console
