Quote: What do you call an organization where total loyalty to a charismatic but volatile leader is strictly enforced? A Cult Expert Finds Familiar Patterns of Behavior in Trump's GOP
The article seems to be grasping at straws. This isn't going to sell very well. Sure, Trump is an asshole, but making shit up about him won't "defeat" him. You're going to have to win this one in the political arena. Which shouldn't be too hard. Hillary was a terrible candidate who rarely got off her ass to campaign. Find a democrat with more energy and less inclination to think they "deserve" a particular seat that has to be earned the hard way. What's interesting is the article's comparison, to the exclusion of Obama's VERY cult-like status for his entire term. Back then it was cool to have a cult following, now it isn't? I think it's the wading through so many stupid double standards that makes this constant whining about the election so boring. Even Gore got over it quicker and he was the ultimate leftist boot-licker.
I think it's unfair to lump them all in the same category like that, but Trump supporters I know and have interacted with? Absolutely. Cult is a very accurate description
Yea, but it's "cool" to hate Trump. Even if you don't know the guy, he's a convenient dumpster for the hatred of easily-used minions. I can only imagine what political discourse would be like these days if not for so much childish emotion being attached to it. But that's not important. What's important is finding "proof" that Trump is a "racist" (one of the most overused laments on the market today), sexist or never tips his hair stylist. ANYTHING, any kind of "dirt" will do. And forget backpedaling when it's proven wrong. Nope, the story just goes quiet. I admit though, it's weird to see so many hippies get so deeply programmed by political pundits. As long as it's a negative story about Trump, it simply MUST be true (even if it isn't).
I don’t think his followers are a cult. Trump makes stupid comments and is an asshole. He surrounds himself with folks that are boot lickers and yes men. However, every person who gets to be one of the nations power brokers does the same. The reason he won the presidency was. 1. Hillary was a poor candidate. 2. The Democrats decided Hillary was the nominee for their party. Many I know thought no one would vote for Trump in the general election. These same democrats either changed party affiliation during the primaries or crossed party lines in the open primary states and voted for Trump. I did not vote for Trump in the primaries. 3. There are many folks that want illegal immigration to stop. Trump played to them and it worked. 4. The economy is on fire right now. My 401k is up 15% over the last 18 months. It is on it way to 22% for this year. My wife who retired at 52 saw an increase in her retirement distribution of 25% for last year. So yes there are those of us who are happy with the way things are headed. 5. If you Democrats, Socialists or what ever you want to call yourselves want trump out. Stop spending money. You make up about 47% of the nations population. You should be able to collapse the economy. By doing so the president no matter who he or she is will take the blame. Then poof the president becomes the fall guy for everyone’s economic failings and out the door the president goes. Just my opinion
I think the reason Trump and Sanders had large rallies is because a lot of people are dis-satisfied with the current establishment politics. The article assumes that the large crowds were caused by Trump,s ability to enchant. I don't think Bernie's 27,000 person rallies were caused by his enchanting nature. People are just fed up.
So if you don't like Trump you automatically like Obama? Got it. Are there any other free thinkers left in the world?
Not you, apparently, unless free thinking to you means freedom from evidence and reason. I think its weird to see so many Republican hateful oxymoronic hippies, but that's the brave new we live in. Country club hippies, who would have thought it. I think there are ample reasons, grounded in facts (real facts, not fake ones) to dislike Trump and to think his continued presidency would be a disaster: he promised to drain the swamp, but instead filled it with alligators and swamp creatures (Pruitt, Price, Ross, Zinke, Carson, Devos, Perry, etc.); openly disparages our allies and praises the dictator of a foreign power; took thousands of kids from their parents, put kids in cages, and still hasn't returned them all; embarked on a trade war that threatens us with inflation and economic hardship; conducts businesses that violate the emoluments clause of our constitution; and divides us almost daily by tweets that sound like racist dog whistles. I could go on and on, and have on another thread entitled the Donald Trump score card. From time to time you pose as a neutral observer who has reservations about Trump, but now you seem to have put on your MAGA hat again.
I find Sanders to be far more charismatic than Trump could dream to be. He really speaks to your heart and soul.
I don't like Trump, but I he's not a racist even though a small minority of his constituency is. I've often wondered why most Democrats think forever wars are acceptable now and I think Obama made it okay since he was the longest war time president in American history. That is just one way Obama transformed the party. If Trump happens to end the wars in the middle east, which is a real possibility, most Democrats will be against it.
I agreed with his message for the most part and even went to a rally and was part of the caucus. He tended to repeat the same talking points over and over which may have been detrimental in the long run. Trump is a better entertainer than Bernie, but both were outsiders which is what people wanted. I'm more aligned with Tulsi Gabbard for her staunch anti-regime change stance on the wars.
And Republicans were against Obama finishing the wars Bush started. What's your point? It doesn't matter. Trump is a piece of shit, but the same people who called out Clinton for cheating on his wife, back Trump to the hilt because he identifies Republican. That's what it comes down to. Politics is just sports these days: my team vs. your team. When my team makes a play, it's a good hustle. When your team makes the exact same play, it's a foul.
