I think thats a way awful thing to say. In my mind being a hippy incompasses all aspects of the culture. And I think that if someone is turned on by being diffrent, then right on! because we're all different. and real hippies don't care whether someone is a "real" hippie or not. as long as you are what you are thats all the matters! stay true to yourself and you'll be better off than everyone else. know yourself.
You shouldnt be embarassed about your beliefs...talk about them, embrace them, and if anyone makes fun of you, well, screw that. Just know that we all cant agree and see things the same way, and that's what makes each of us beautiful and unique. I personally enjoy hearing other points of view...I believe it makes us well rounded people in the long run....we become more sympathetic and understanding towards others. Stand up for your beliefs....you cant ever be wrong if you dont let someone else make you think you are.
The only thing "hippie" about my wardrobe is the fact that I wear no synthetic garments. Cotton, linen and wool are my choices. And in Southern California, wool is not something that pops up to often. My hair is worn a little longer than most folks' comfort zone permits. I also have a beard and 'stache. I watch what I eat these days. I grow some of my ow food. I compost. I share living space with others. I try not to exploit humanity. Yeah, I'd say that there are hippies today AT ALL... whatever that means.
