Are there any occupations/professions that you violently dislike, so much that..

I think it is more that the general public and many fairly uneducated politicians have faith in the assumptions of economists because they do not understand the limitations of the field.

 

I think this is mostly true as well however since their are so many economic theories, a politician can pick and choose whichever economist provides the best justification for their public policies.

So some politicians are definitely more than a little culpable.

 

I know a couple of politicians who privately admitted to being terrified of economists. Sometimes economists manipulate politicians. So you really can get something like a "shadow government" pulling the strings. The last recession was partly caused by halfwit politicians taking advice from banker economists, who often aren't real, independent economists.

The basics of economics are sound eg what happens (in basic terms) with money supply adjustments/int rates etc. The problem comes in the application and optimisation of a strategy.

 

Economics is very scientific. The science of the effective use of obfuscation and gobbledygook. The main purpose has been shown over the last decade and continues--that is ==making sure that the dough flows to the 1 or 2 percent that really, really need it. It's pretty much all rigged and most----no--I'll take that back. Some know it.

And fuckin' lawyers, for whom the truth means nothing. Win and take exorbitant fees is the deal. I inherited a few grand one time and I ended up with 800 bucks.

The miserable folks that have to interrupt dinner at night to sell you --anything.

(PS: I've seen a LOT of shit work in the roofing trade, however I'm proud to give my customers the VERY BEST job that can be done. And so do my boys.

 

Are they being held prisoner in a specific town?

I understand your theoretical scenario. I'm not sure how realistic it is.

 

They live in a coastal Croatian town where there are not too many jobs, and there is a large cigarette factory offering jobs.

 

I have know some people in different professions that I would not care to associate with but that was because of how they were rather than how the whole profession is.

Ironically each profession is needed at some level.

 

Maybe professions, but not nec all occupations.
Nor professions in the form they might be in currently.

 

No, it doesn't really bother me what jobs people work to obtain money to live. Like, not enough to simply not socialise with them over it. It's a job, they most probably don't like it anyway they're just doing it for a living.

There are three occupations I detest and it’s that of the septic tank cleaner, the guy who vacuums out the porta-potties, and the Hispanic guy (probably an illegal alien) who the city hires each spring, summer, and fall to remove road kill

I don't usually have long meaningful friendships with hunters or military people....I do not have much common ground with them....no judgement, though.

and I don't mean the older vets who I have found to be very cool...hell, my dad was in the Navy once upon a time ...I mean some of these young new ones that I have met have been jerky, is what I mean...with kill, kill, kill on the brain....but maybe I just met the wrong ones.....of those.

 

Violently dislike slaughterhouses and factory farming, so must mean those people, too.....

 

Well, as I understood it that isn't really the point of this thread anyway. The real question was/is: would you really dislike people that are working in shifts at a tobacco factory and aren't willing to move with their family for an uncertain chance of a better job elsewhere so much you would break all ties with them? Even if it was a good friend...?

 

I noticed that I don't tend to have a lot in common with people who are attracted to authority or rules--police officers, military folks, etc. They usually have a certain mindset that clearly divides us.

There are exceptions, so I wouldn't discount any of these people as friends. I've been close mates with military, and have been acquainted with a few law enforcement officials.

 

All the police officers I had the chance to meet were nice, decent people just doing their job and making a living.
