that's not a question of development but of accumulated data base.
i remember very vivedly much of what i experienced in that age group.
not fondly either, because my parents, while absolutely well intentioned, where just as influenced by prevailing assumptions and beliefs.

When children get information from what they believe to be credible sources, they are more likely to believe it is true.

I was, but I realized my house is boring and I'm waiting on books to come into the library so I have nothing to do until then. And I'm waiting on saturday to go home to Potosi with my grandpa for a while. That is if he lets me. I gotta talk to him about it.

The attitude that burger flipping is a bad thing is a really bad thing to teach your kids, too. Sure, there are bigger and better things out there, but sometimes you get stuck and a job flipping burgers is better than no job at all.

precisely why parents and families are often among their WORST influences.

also precisely why they NEED DIVERSITY of input, so their perceptions arn't totally skewed by an unnatural and unrealistically narrowed range of perspectives.

if they see one war movie it might horrify them. but it won't be the only influence on their lives if it isn't the only thing they ever see. but if they see ONLY hyper-aggressive macho assholes, guess how that will make them 'grow up'!

If a cartoonist can take something just downright deluded and twisted, then cover it up with enough cartoony happiness and anthropomorphization to get it pass the critics, the censors, the heads of the broadcasting station and even the parents. That takes some serious skill.

I mean Ren and Stimpy for example. Still the best childrens show I think. But analyze what that show really is... it's just wrong.

Personally, I always seem to like shows like that better. Ren and Stimpy my favorite. Spongebob was a favorite of mine. Dexters lab prolly another favorite. Even dexters lab portrays the world around them pretty insidiously.

Rocko's Modern Life is also pretty fucked when you get it to the core of it.

As to the OP. Cartoon characters aren't sexual. And people who try to make them so are putting things places where they shouldn't be.

instead of television, we need to be telling each other (and dreaming) OUR OWN "vision(s)".
