I reckon the next step down the human evolutionary path would be the evolution of conciousness, ways we both communicate and process information - and much more connections both concious and physical, but I see government blocking any possibility of this; as we are not taught, told, or advised to go about life in this way and have systems of control which, whether intentional or not, inevitably prevent thinking on levels other than those of thought patterns which have been fixed and developed upon over the years of a routine based existence.
umm wtf.. whoever believes this must be fucking retarded, go to college.. do some reading.. this has got to be the dumbest thread on these forums lol The whole planet, and everything in it.. along with the universe, is always emerging.. meaning EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS IN A STATE OF EVOLUTION.. if you dont know what emerging means, it means to DEVELOP.. that means humans too..
Humans are very far from being done evolving. People who think we're done evolving must keep in mind how young of a race we are, and how we're just now getting more advanced in technology. I bet there are many others races out there who have been far more evolved than us for hundreds, if not thousands of years.
you can't really be "more evolved" than another species. one could have been around longer and therefore evolving for longer. evolution isn't a race to get to some ending. the ending would be when the species or a subpopulation of it evolves so that it is now a new species (and can't mate with the old one - that's the definition)...or it becomes extinct. those are the two ways you stop evolving. "advancement" is a different term. some of you are talking about the level of advancement of humans i think.
I never said it was a race to get to anything, but being more evolved means being more advanced. For instance, we are far more advanced than animals, just like another race of beings may be more evolved/advanced than us.
Evolution. Every time you go out to run you are in a sense evolving. What happens? Basically, your body adapts to your environment. Instead of your body being lazy, it goes "Hey, this guy's running from a wild bear! We need to make sure he escapes alive next time!". You might just be running a mile and a half around a park but your body doesn't know the difference. Although you might not see changes immediately, surely it will happen. That's why we lose weight, grow muscles, and becomes easier to assess a situation once our brainpower is challenged. We lack what some animals may attain. We aren't as swift or as graceful as a cheetah. We certainly can't fly like a falcon. But we have superior minds, blessed with the ability to think abstractly which in my opinion, sets us so far ahead from other animals. Now, what is currently going on in today's society based on my opinion is this. How many millions of years did primitive organisms have to change from a mollusk-like animal to an enormous, bi-pedal carnivore? Exactly. How much time have we had to change from a nomadic, basic hunter-gatherer to an opinionated, articulate and very intelligent human such as.. Friedrich Nietzsche? One who questions truth and proposed philosophies from aesthetics to complicated abstract subjects such as Nihilism. A couple thousands years would be a good estimate. It's an interesting topic. Is technology progressing too quickly for our biology to keep up?
first off i just wanna say that comment of mine was not meant to be cocky or anything, just to illustrate that there is a lot of confusion around that word; evolution. evolution is not accomplished on an individual level - a person running or working out is not evolution. for evolution to occur, the traits need to be controlled by genes, which are passed onto offspring. because they get the gene, they also have the trait. stuff like running, learned behaviors, etc don't work this way. it's a very complicated subject, so i probably can't enlighten you on all of it. if you have any questions i'll do my best to shed some light. (again i'm not putting myself up on some high horse, but i do have a degree in biochem. i've taken a few genetics classes, but evolution is not really my specialty.) there is also the whole "nature vs. nurture" debate. "nature" being the argument that most things are encoded by genes or DNA - intelligence or sexual preference as two examples. "nurture" being the argument that these things are learned behaviors. even though i really into science, i can't believe that everything is controlled by genes, therefore all the traits of humans can't be explained by evolution. you can still talk about our species progression in intelligence and technology and morals...but that's not evolution. it's a different topic, and it's difficult to separate the two.
Well, if you train humans to run for 10 hours a day to catch their food for survival, after hundreds of thousands of years, we'd be a different species entirely. We wouldn't be human anymore, we would have body types efficient for running and for maiming prey while our brains would return to mush and our "human" characteristics would of gone out the door. I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I guess I was trying to point out the first processes of it. It's obviously a very slow biological function, but am I right in the sense that evolution is triggered by changes in the environment and changes in an animal's behavior?
if you train human to be great runners, it doesn't matter because that training doesn't pass on to offspring. if people who couldn't run fast were killed and therefore didn't have babies, and people who could run lived, and therefore had lots of babies, it would be likely that something in their genetics contributed to their running skills and therefore their offspring would be able to run and yadda yadda yadda. evolution is triggered by changes in the environment that select for certain traits in a population - that is; animals without it die, and animals with the genetic trait live and pass it on to their offspring. no need to apologize - you haven't had my education. most people think incorrectly about evolution.
a quote from my professor this morning; "your DNA mutates.. shit happens.. and you evolve." it's some complicated shit though.
when it comes to my knowledge of science...yes i do. as far as other things are concerned, i don't think overly high of myself. i have a degree in biochemistry and i'm working on my Ph.D. i thought i would have avoided a comment like this with my post at the top of this page... i was talking specifically to xDiesel, since he asked for an explanation. and since he didn't take offense, i don't think you should either. if you don't have something to contribute to the conversation, why post at all?
If you spend all your time training to be a great runner, and the people next door are at home having sex (or maybe your partner is joining them! eek!) then they'll be the ones having kids and you won't. And even if your partner isn't cheating on you, you'll come home all sweaty and be totally exhausted and unattractive, so no offspring produced. Thus nature selects for people who are lazy, horny and sneaky.
I read lots of good thoughts. Morrison, neurotica xxx, and asilos were all right, in my opinion, but I only read the first page. As humans we do try to take care of the weak. I just saw slumdog millionaire. Only among humans could so many young be born into such miserable conditions and survive. So, in society as it is today, we will never evolve, because the weak are not killed off, they are not eaten (We have no predators, well most of us don't) and the sick and injured are taken care of in million dollar hospitals. But I also believe that, no, nothing stops evolving. Nothing is static. Someday society will be changed forever. Hopefully this day is millions and millions of years in the future, but something will happen that will destroy our comfy society and the weak will again be in trouble. And man will evolve.
