Absolutely! Most in the past was raised on a farm or such they were taught things made to work and help it taught them a trade work ethics and so much more. The more is a lot! You learned to repurpose things get by with what you had taught you to think outside the box! That quickly gave you common sense that we have mostly lost!

Speaking of the political implications of Americans getting dumber, I thought I'd include this:

"Are these morons getting dumber. Or just louder?"
    "Dumber, sir..."

    —Much Apu About Nothing,
    Mayor Quimby and aide,
    Homer Simpson and Apu,
    Season 7, Episode 23,
Original air date: May 5, 1996.

I was just going to add if I haven't by now. But you know in 1998 I took a class in logic in local CC. And we would literally "graph" sentences. Bubble A leads to bubble B, etc. It's interesting you know. Because most sentences have simple graphs.

But then we graphed a sentence by Associate Justice John Paul Stevens. He was talking about juvenile justice I think. And he used such simple words. But the graph filled up an entire page! Wow.

You know, Stephen Breyer once said. When a Supreme Court Justice makes a ruling, he or she speaks to two people. The general public, and the lower court judges.

Yeah, big words don't scare me. Because I know all the big words. It's simple words that really scare me. Because I know they are trying to say something else. But maybe it's because I am smart enough to know my limitations.

And another thing. When I took my SAT test in 1985, I found it almost insulting to my intelligence. It is really that simple? The HS placement was opposite. They had rounding on the math part. But they also had significant figures. We didn't cover that till HS. Why would they think we'd know that?
