HEY YOU!! KID!! GET THE HELL OFF MY LAWN, I JUST WATERED IT !!!

    >>>
In this boomers vs. millennials-debate, the millennials often point out that the boomers had it easier, because they didn't have to pay nearly as much for their property and homes compared to how much millennials are expected to pay today.
    >>>

That's mostly horseshit. Out of college today, salaries are 5X what we did in my field. Our first smaller house ate up half our take home pay for the mortgage (14%) and taxes. Rents were proportional or even higher for the time and income levels, same with cars. Granted, the times today, have made quite a jump in the price of real estate locally, but again, so have incomes - nobody realized that before, real estate was such a bargain. You're young, you buy a house that you can handle and work your way up the ladder. If you can't afford to buy a house, do something about it....move...get a new job...and NO you can't live with mom and dad. It's not supposed to be easy and yes you have to work and make sacrifices. No, you can't have everything at 25 and quit whining about it.

What I do feel is a travesty is the price of college. Community college is practically free to knock out your first two years - there's no need to pay for two years of "weed out" courses at a four year university. That whole system need an enema.

Boomers absolutely had it easier. One income earner families was common. Yes salaries are higher but consumer prices and housing has increased at a greater rate. College was much more affordable and not required for a good job and jobs weren’t being lost to cheaper overseas workers.

    College is crazy expensive.

We had a strong manufacturing economy until we encouraged offshoring - now we are a services economy.

I should have been a plumber.

Capitalism is intended to drive efficiency. That was bound to happen

Then that begs the question - why wasn't I just born rich instead of quite so handsome and clever?

Well, with so many walking around with a degree of some sort in their pocket these days and for now being the equivalent of a HS diploma in the days of old, trades like plumbing, do demand higher pay, with not so many wanting the job.
It's all about supply and demand and I don't care if you're a rocket scientist, except that rocket scientist are still pretty much in demand, I think.... lol

Many years ago I was lucky enough to hear the economist Lester Thurow talk about the developing problem concentration of wealth in our economy. He correctly predicted that as the few got richer, the rest of us would face a scramble for what’s left over. Classical capitalism argues that distribution doesn’t matter and equity has no standing in a free economy.

But the reality is that Money now controls our political system. Thank you Justice Roberts for “Citizens HA United” for putting the nail in the coffin of a free market. So regulations have been shredded, corporations have seized common property like air and water, and the solution? Trickle down and make the rich richer. It becomes more an economy of the rich, by the rich, for the rich. It’s anything but a free economy.

As far as baby boomers I remember not enough kindergartens, not enough high schools, not enough jobs, not enough doctors…and finally not enough granite. Our economy has known the baby boomer bulge was an issue sine 1950.

It seems like you have some concerns about the state of education and the perceived decline in intellectual standards. As for the perception of talent or intelligence among famous individuals, it is true that public figures can sometimes be overestimated or misconstrued. Media portrayal, public image, and personal biases can contribute to the perception of someone's abilities or intellect. It's important to remember that true intelligence and talent are not solely determined by fame or public recognition but are multifaceted and can manifest in various ways.

Proof, voting for the GOP's Austerity Culture, is a form of Stockholm Syndrome.
I've noticed the GOP's Third World Social Engineering/ Austerity, has done a serious psychological, social, economic and intellectual damage in Central California, the South and the majority of the Midwest.

They're probably focusing on those "different" people waaaaaay over there that make no practical difference on their lives rather than their lack of potable water or affordable anything.

And in those Red States, they have defunded Education and stagnated wages and socially engineered people to be more close minded, clueless about Governance / the Constitution, no longer teach critical thinking and replaced it with Bibles, Racism, Stockholm Syndrome and bigotry in a wide spectrum .

Yet, they blame others over their own self disenfranchisement and other self inflicted wounds .

After G.W. Bush and PrimaDonald, they have lost and ran out of excuses .
The Kryptoniteof the GOP are ; science, truth, reality, facts and accountability.

It has nothing to do with politics.

As an elder my observation is YES people are not as smart or able to adapt as they were in previous generations.

My grandmother could skin and dress out a steer completely on her own. She could also manage a farm while her husband worked in the city.

Can anyone besides a butcher or farmer do that in this present generation?

    NO.

I occasionally hunt, I have those skills and I lived in America's second biggest city too.

Yeah, the Internet and instant gratification has thwarted some of their social skills and patients .

I am part Comanche, I don't wage War, Hunt Buffalo or conduct raids anymore, like my ancestors .
Why should young people shoot a bull or cow, gut it or skin it , when they can just go to store and buy the meat .

Face it, the World has CHANGED and the old one is never coming back ..... the Old World is not worth going back to Leave it Beaver or Fathers Know Best .

Yup, and those old farts keep stealing any hope or chance a young person has and vote for MAGA / Guardians of Plutocracy or Corporate Democrats.

Trickle Down / Voodoo Economics failed under Ronald Reagan, G.H.W. Bush 1, G.W. Bush 2 and Donald Trump.

Conservatism failed America, like Communism failed the Soviet Union.

Ha Ha Ha, she passed before the birth of the Internet.

I could have chosen a different example of intelligence rather than skills... but so it goes.
