Arch support... What if I wore a sling for arm support year after year ? My arm would get so weak I would need it for support.

But the myth that just won't die "Accelerating slowly saves fuel" , we have all been waiting at that left green arrow that finally finally finnaly turns green you miss it by four cars cause on green they wont get moving and when they do they take off extra extra stupid slow !!

If I fill my bathtub slowly will I save water ??? How much water will I save ??

Cars get poorer fuel economy in lower gears, and accelerating stupid slow prevents upshifting at an efficient rate. ... In testing they found that taking 15 seconds to accelerate to 50 mph used less fuel than taking 30 seconds to reach the same speed, because the car entered its top, fuel-saving gear sooner.

Also engines have what's called an efficiency zone usually around 70-80 % of peak HP torque. The reason 4 cylinder cars get better mileage the V8s is because the engine is working harder and closer to the efficiency zone, NOT because of less cylinders.

    Whats the agenda.
I don't see the agenda but I know there is one.
    So what is it.

The agenda is I want to bust the slow acceleration saves fuel myth, I mean really bust it like using dynamite on a sandcastle.

I want to be able to get up by the mall and all the stores 5 miles away in10 minutes instead of 25-35 minutes cause every light is a five minute ordeal with everyone "saving" fuel taking off extra extra stupid slow on green. So extra stupid slow that the next pack of cars has to stop cause they are not moving yet but its been already been green for like 2 minutes.

Maybe if I set up one of those cyber begging GoFundMe pages people would donate money towards an ad campaign to bust the slow acceleration saves gas myth ?? Then as more people heard about it more donations would come in till its busted busted busted.

If all the people in the entire country that get irritated with the slow starting fuel "savers" sent me $1 that would likely be enough for a minute long ad during the Superbowl to bust the myth.

You go work on that. Everyone needs a hobby.
I have a feeling whatever time you save driving will be more than wasted with the time it takes you getting the word out.

But doesn't everyone want to change the world just a little ?

And I think it would be good for the planet cause cars would be sitting idle not moving making pollution as much if traffic actually flowed.

For some reason the start off extra stupid slow at lights seems to be unique to the United States, most other countries I have been too people get up and go in their cars.

You've got the problem wrong. It's not that they are accelerating slow... The first person at the light just sits there when it turns green because they are a fucking idiot.

Honestly 90% of the time cars go pretty fast off the line. I think you should focus more in the area you are in because here on the east coast I see people moving quick enough.

Everywhere I've been, including the east coast, they have to sit there a quite few seconds before they realize the light actually changed.

i've never heard of slow acceleration saving gas, nor have i heard of slowly filling a bathtub saving water. the bathtub one seems blatantly false, since water is slowly evaporating and often slowly leaking through the drain, so the longer you take the more gets wasted.

i have heard that driving around 55mph saves gas. i have no idea if it's true. i've also heard that releasing the gas and coasting to a stop saves more gas than accelerating to the stop sign/light and slamming on the brakes. that one makes sense, since you are actually not hitting the gas pedal as much. but i've never seen a scientific study on it or anything.

people do tend to start really slow at green lights, but then they usually continue to drive really slow and never reach a reasonable speed. i think this is largely a local phenomenon for me; before i moved here it seemed like everyone sped everywhere, but for some reason in this county everyone drives at least 10mph below the speed limit. which is really confusing because we basically have no police here, so fear of a ticket has nothing to do with it.

small sacrifices. he may spend more time on it than he saves for himself, but if he saves that much time for everyone, it will be way more than the time he spends on his little crusade.

besides, there is something just fucking unbearable about sitting at a red light. a lot of times, i'll take a route that actually takes slightly longer, just because i can avoid a light and will be actually moving forward the entire time. so spending time doing something that prevents sitting at lights is perfectly understandable to me.

That has more to do with if the person is paying attention. The OP is ranting about slow acceleration. They are two completely different things.
    As for underwear....
I have personally driven at all speeds on the highway while keeping track of my gas milage display. 40mph is the optimum speed in my cruze to get the most speed per mpg. I get 40 mpg on the highway going 40mph. I get about 45 mpg going 55 or 60 MPH on the turnpike (no lights) I wouldn't go 40 on the turnpike so can't say for sure what I would get.
I do get better milage going 30 MPH but really there are no streets that have no lights or stop signs that you would go that slow. So my data is over smaller chunks of travel.
I can say with absolute certainty that if I go 45mph I get worse gas milage than 40 MPH and for every 5 MPH faster it gets worse. But it isn't enough to drive slower unless I am out of gas and need to conserve until I hit a gas station.

My point to the OP is his rant is misguided... It's not slow acceleration at all. The first person in line has their head up their ass.

You just so happened to misread one of my posts again.

I read it just fine. I think it's a little absurd to say every person first at a light has their head up their ass. If only you could be first at every light the world would be donuts and sparkles.

I don't think their all their heads are up in their butts, I think a lot of it is due to me me me narcissism.

Its really hot out and this left turn arrow is finally green, now I am going to make everyone wait wile I proof read then press send on my text then accelerate extra stupid slow. Screw everyone else behind me, who cares. They can wait for the next one...

But narcissists don't operate that way, the idea or concern for the people behind them never enters their mind in the first place I really don't believe it is conscience "screw everyone" action.
