I know we had a thread about the rap song but all that was just in good fun. This still isn't super serious but it's a little less un-serious. It would be great if you click the link and listen to a song we play. It would be even more great if you vote for us. Thanks a bunch! Even if you don't vote...I'd love to hear your thoughts on the song. It's Obsession by Obsidians Dream. http://www.desmoinesmc.com/vote-favorite-local-bands-perform-gdp-2014/
Sounds good. Makes me want to get all trippy and dance. I voted for you, my name is deez nutz. deeznutz@gmail.com
Right on Wiz, pretty dang smooth :2thumbsup:...is it fair to call that 'fusion'? I do hate to be too critical (I play horn myself so I know the difficulties...and not saying I could have done better) but I found the trumpet players intonation a little questionable...plus I was kinda hoping for a guitar solo
Well, it says you have to vote for your favorite local band. I am not a local in your country, plus I have another favorite local band that is actually local.
Birdy, it just means the bands are local to Des Moines , it has nothing to do with your location. Be a good sport and give 'em a vote.
I voted. And I picked only one because honestly, the rest were nothing but a bunch of shit music. Some of that shit those people were playing doesn't even qualify to be called music. Wiz, bro, you guys rock!
I would but OP is not the most local wizard in my case. There are 2 living in my hedge (yes it needs to be clipped).
I thiNk your song is awesome! i TRIED TO VOTE BUT IT SAID i HAD TO VOTE FOR 3...AND i DON'T KNOW WHO ELSE TO VOTE FOR, SO WHAT SHOULD i DO?(my keyboard is messed up...Cap lock)
Thanks for the kind words and votes. I have no idea what the vote count is so far. All I can see is the plays on each track and predictably...the one at the top of the list seem to have the most. I think we're doing ok for being near the middle of the list. I don't know anything about how this song got into this vote. We have others that might be a little more "radio friendly" And I have no idea about intonation on the horn. I know it's an old horn. Our singer plays it. I think he had a few lessons in 5th or 6th grade and picked it up one day to throw a few notes into a jam. We were all like "Yeah...cool...just keep doing that and eventually it will sound ok." Kind of like how they did with me on guitar except I never had lessons. They pretty much just tossed me out there. He also plays flute, guitar and a few other things so that's a fun asset for live shows. If anyone wants to hear more....I posted this when I first joined HF. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=479872&f=268 Please enjoy the entire 17 track cd for free. We start our next project this coming Saturday. As usual...nobody knows a damn thing about what the schedule is. We're used to it. I think that's our comfort zone.
It's not the horns fault, no trumpet is perfectly intoned on it's own. It's up to the player to compensate by 'lipping' the notes in tune. Thanks for sharing the CD, will give a listen when I have some more time
It's a good thing we're having fun because if we were doing it for the money, we would have been homeless years ago. But yeah....we do have a lot of fun. He's got better at it. When he's really in the zone during a show he seems to just nail everything he does. He's pretty amusing when he gets like that. Let me know what you think of the disc. We are actually back in the studio tomorrow to start the next project. Here we go again.....
The CD; 'Plant life' The drums were recorded well! Very keyboard oriented, Sounds like the piano player is the major songwriting contributor. Dense mixes, possilbly a bit over-compressed, its all kinda flattened out. I also found the mix a little too democratic lol My playback system is EQ'ed in favor of vocals and I still wanted them more up in the mix. What I could hear of the guitar was good... Guitar solos? More guitar solos dammit! ha ha Rhythmically fairly tight without sounding too metric. I get mostly a hippy-shake greatful-Phish kinda vibe overall. I'm sure that demographic would support you well. Ok so thats enough potato-head talk for me, feel free to shred my stuff too if you get a chance lol I'm not cut out to be a rock critic, leaves a bad taste in my mouth to be judging others creative stuff. You know what they say, "talking about music is like dancing about architecture" Rock on Bro.
Thanks for the feedback. The keyboard player actually doesn't write most of the songs but he is responsible for creating the little oddities that take you from one song to the next in places. And he does a lot of the mixing of the tracks so....
