I like it. I have a few pieces collected will take some pics. My mom got me into it. I also have a few pieces that I was told are petrified wood. They are very heavy and quite solid like rock almost. I got them from the old mines around here.

Here is one piece in one of my gardens. It doesn't look nearly as nice in the pic as it is.

I used to love collecting driftwood. I had a friend in the 70's who made mobiles from found objects like driftwood, nuts, feathers etc. I still have a couple of her mobiles hanging up here.

Petrified wood is stone. I purchased a couple pieces in a rock shop but haven't ever found any.

    Hello,

looks good. How big is it? Half a meter? Somewhere I have a small piece of oak, which I wrenched from a marsh. The marsh tried to take one of my rubber boots in exchange ;).

    Regards
    Gyro

When I was told they were petrified wood I was also told it's a very old wood that was buried and turned into a stone like wood from being buried so long and absorbing the earths minerals or some shit like that.

its illegal to remove driftwood from certain locations here.. usually man-made lake and protected areas..
lots of it along the river. used to have some nice pieces in the front the house. but overtaken by weeds and removed. maybe some other time..

Nice. Beautiful things can be made from driftwood. I wish I lived close to a good source.

Nice looking piece of wood, mallyboppa.

My understanding is that the wood rots away entirely and as it does it leaves a space that acts like a mold. The sediment seeps into the mold as the wood rots and creates a rock replica. Pretty cool though. I have a few pieces of petrified wood outside.

Interesting Wizardofodd, I might take some time soon and read more to find out what I actually have here. The little town I lived in years ago had a huge piece in front of the town hall pinned to the ground somehow, woulda loved to have the strength and slimy personality to swipe it for my front yard.
It was way nicer then the small pieces I have. Looked like someone polished it too, altho that might have been the natural way it was.
