As soon as Bush was elected, I stopped standing and I caught hell for it. For me, the part I disagree with is, (paraphrased)...I pledge allegience to the USA and the Republic for which it stands. Umm, I'm pretty sure I don't support our republic, so how dare they demand that I show "patriotism." Seriously though, it is a pointless battle, entirely pointless.

But you know what, you graduate, and you never have to deal with it again.

You have a responsiblity to stand for your country's flag. School isn't a democracy; it's provided for by the government. I'm very liberal, but I do believe that respect for the country you live in is a necesity. You don't have to agree witht he government, but you do have to respect it for the things it provides you.

back in high school I actually spent many a mornin' in the dean's office with a few freyands because we chose not to stand....those deans got to know us pretty well i gotta say...but there was no way that seeing them everyday and getting in trouble for it was gonna make us stop doing what we believed was right.

Just because you resist standing up for the national anthem doesn't make you smart, cool, or anything else. If you can defend your reasoning with more than "They haven't done anything good," "they are liars," or other such stuff, that may make you smart. Anybody that thinks you are independant simply because you don't tand is a fool.

Actualy Toke Trip... although it doesnt make anyone smart or cool...it does make them something else....

I havent ever stood for my countries National Anthem.... God Save the Queen... what the hell is that all about.... you just have to listen to the words to know the reasons why some refuse to stand... 'Send Her Victorious'

They arent words of Defence..they are words of attack and conquer....and the anthem gets worse in the second verse... I dont want to Stand and show my support for the wars we are dragged into... and Toke Trip..I am no fool...and I am as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours.... and neither do i have to justify my actions to you... are you so insecure that you have to attack people who hold a different view to your own?... i laughed at your attempt to make those of us who choose not to stand look stupid....

I avoid any situation where i have to stand...and if i am at a function where i know there will be a 'toast' to the Queen I inform the organisers ahead of the event that i need enough warning so i can leave the room.... i do this out of respect for people who might be offended.... for me its a private issue.... and over the years i have learnt tolerance for others.... something you might learn when you are older....

First stopped pledging a long time ago cause it's stupid to state your loyalty to a flag, or even a country. Wtf is your country but a piece of land run by an anonymous group of rich men? Also pledging allegiance to a symbol of ignorance, ego, war, and worst of all, money, just isn't my thing.

So... what does it make them?

Try using punctuation? Ellipses don't replace periods, fyi.

If you claim to believe something, and cannot justify it, you are a fool. A blind, following fool. The inability to support one's beliefs is a flaw. I don't make fun of you all; you do it by yourself. I simply state my opinions. You look stupid all by yourself; the inability to understand and respect the country and freedoms previous citizens have worked for already makes you look stupid. You are ungrateful, ignorant, stupid, or some combination thereof.

Nice grammar; I'm tolerant of others, simply annoyed. You don't see vulgar or offensive language in my posts for a reason; it's not needed. Something you should have learned, perhaps, when you were younger is to respect and honor the works and accomplishments of your predescessors(sp?).
