I don't own a TV. It's not that I don't enjoy watching the occasional movie or documentary or something but I find that the ratio of utter crap to good stuff is too large to warrant my paying some overly wealthy com company my hard earned money for the sake of watching some show. I can see just about anything I want on the Internet and mostly I just have other things I find way more interesting...like gazing at my belly button. :)

I don't watch TV, haven't watched it for about 3 years. I didn't intend to stop watching TV but I found I always had something else to do, like read or cook or hang out with my boyfriend. Now, 3 years on it's something that doesn't really occur to either of us. It's funny how habits can change!

i sure don't. maybe the ocassional science or history program, but even those things must be taken with a grain of salt.
by sitting in front of the television and watching everything that comes on the screen, you really have no control over whats going into your head. i dont know about you all, but thats not for me.

TV is there to dum down and distract the people. God forbid they would awake from the media stupor and horror of horrors start to think in a critical way how they are getting fucked by the one percent.

If you don't own a television, but you miss commercials, you can always go to Youtube.

My husband can't stand commercials and he'll tape shut the little speakers at the gas pump at the gas station spewing commercials.
    I haven't owned a TV for years.

I don't have a TV, not had one for about 8 years. However I have the internet and a computer, so I suppose it's just a TV with a few extras :mickey:

The lines are blurring. I use television to post Flickr photos from my camera and watch them on the big screen at the home of some prosperous relatives.
Youtube and Netflix are the same way. But the programming is awesome. You can zone out watching videos of kittens being silly and cute or you can watch people explain how to grow the perfect tomato, or learn how to play a banjo.

A friend of mine uses her television for showing educational videos to her son, but never watches network television programs.

An unused television is also a handy shelf to set a cup of coffee or grow some African violets.

One group of television channels plays music with no video, sort of like a stereo system.

But people without televisions are rarely bored...
You can talk with friends, take up crafts, catch fish, run around naked, paddle a canoe, read a book, enjoy life! (Your life, not someone else's)

    Is Kindle reading?
I can't take too much of that.
I prefer ink (pencil or crayon) on paper.
Okay, letters carved on stone monuments, too. I'll read that.

I sometimes write on the beach sand, but the tide comes along like a giant Etch-a-Sketch and wipes the slate clean for others to write their thoughts.

A long time ago, I wrote the date on a chalkboard in a classroom used to store furniture. I came back year after year to see the date still written there.
A little room where time stands still? We'll see how long the bubble of frozen time lasts before it bursts and the future comes rushing in.

I don't mind the future, as long as it has room for books, real books.
Fahrenheit 454 should remain a work of fiction, not prophecy.

I don´t watch commercial TV or read Magazines because I think that the messages that we get is that we´re not good enough and the solution is to buy things.

This video is my view of what our girls are growing up with.

I only watch indie/underground shows that nobody's heard about. As soon as they "make it" I stop watching.

I put my TV in the cupboard a couple of weeks ago,it was filling me with hate.I Love films and visuals though, but I just cannot stand the connectivity and instantaneity of live broadcasts - I like to have some distance. Also, obviously the adds really piss me off,so I'm glad to be rid of them.In the UK we have the BBC and a thing called BBC Iplayer which allows you to watch a large proportion of their programmes on the internet, and I have to admit the BBC do make some quality stuff.I also have Netflix for films which I love, and Youtube for music and documentaries and suchlike. So I think I am spoiled really. But since the advent of digital broadcasts in the UK,the number of channels has gone from 5 to 60-70 odd and most of it is drivel.I also have problem with hearing voices on broadcast media so I especially cannot tolerate the radio, even if I just walk into a shop and they have it on -the same for live TV.Also children's TV has got really weird in the UK - but that's another subject.

Television news is so often wrong because the media companies make "getting it first" more important than "getting it right". (not even mentioning the media with an agenda, those bought and paid for by corporations.

I prefer news from a weekly or monthly magazine. They have time to edit stories, put things in perspective rather than quick sound bytes.

I find so much of what constitutes "news" very quickly blows over and is forgotten; I hear about the big stuff. I'm glad to have TV out of my life, gives me time and space for more important matters.

Perhaps the majority of the 'big stuff' is subjective as well? That could make it worthwile to check different sources of media to determine what is really big and what is just blown out of proportion. I acknowledge you don't NEED tv for that. But it doesn't hurt if you watch and interpretate what you see reasonably.

it's brainwashing, it draws you in. When I see a TV at work.... they're just brain suckers. Makes me sick, I make a point of steering clear.

  20. I don't watch TV or have cable, but I do watch some shows over the internet, documentaries and such.

I do like television in a way. It's kind of bizarre. Especially the fact that you have to have advertisements in the middle of all this so-called "art." Isn't that really strange, to have a little advert box sitting in your house?

I'm glad I stopped watching it, because the ads have gotten so much worse. Especially these ads now that reflect "peace and love." You'll get a commercial for a Toyota with somebody covering "Give Peace A Chance", you know? It's such deluded rot.
