I thinkits a shame more strangers dont open up to eachother and have a good old talk about life

I do think the person should definitely make sure the other is interested and wants to listen first though

There has be be a lot of respect...the person youre trying to talk to could be going through grief or something and the last thing they want to hear is you jabbering on

BUT in the right circumstances it can be ever so refreshing. Ive enjoyed conversations with strangers when i made it obvious i was open and wanting to listen and they didnt irritate me:)

I agree. people should talk MORE. Get to know each other.
I work in fast food and people seem to open up to you a lot there... its interesting listening to people's stories and learning a bit about them.
We also get a lot of hikers, adventurers, "professional mountain men", AKA homeless... they're the nicest people I've met, and they always have interesting stories to tell.
Even when i'm at drive through, people love to talk.

I like it when strangers talk to me as long as they aren't pressuring me to buy something or give them money...real conversations ya know.

I dont like it when strangers talk to me.
Once this guy tried to talk to me and my sister on a train. That was rude of him.

I like talking to anybody. Everybody has something to say, and by listening and interacting you may just learn something about life, or yourself.

I am sure I replied already, but I will reply again because I like to talk to strangers..why not? I might get some info on something, establish a connection, network or maybe just friendly chit chat about nothing in particular..it is all good to me.

Yeah, I think it's about being sensitive to the other person's signals.

I'm also not crazy about the idea of spending an entire day in public and talking to no one unless I'm doing business with them. Though usually that's what I do, just because I tend to pre-empt the possibility of invading other people's space even though I might be curious about them.

However, the initiator, wanting to avoid any awkwardness, should establish first whether the interlocutor wants to talk. Sometimes there is an initial hesitation/irritation and prodding pays off for both. Sometimes the initiator becomes more and more aggressive the more the interlocutor retreats. That's horrible.

Basically, I LIKE talking to strangers as long as they are regular people and not socio-pathically talkative. It makes up for my shyness, and I'm always thankful for that.

P.S. I do look at people a lot. I don't understand these people that go an entire trip on the train without ever looking in someone's eyes. Such mediocrity!
