Any tips on beard trimming?

Any tips on keeping a beard in shape?I want to keep the moustache area shorter and neater,but grow the full beard somewhat.I want to shape the full beard so it doesn't look too wild.Should I use scissors or an electric trimmer,or a combination of both?

Fire usually works... Okay, not really but...

 

trimmer on it all ..then trim the edges with scissors

then after a while youll probably get lazy and start living on the edge using the trimmer for the edges

 

most of the time I just use scissors cause I've found trimmers to be inaccurate. also don't ever let your wife or girlfriend trim it for you, trust me it's bad

really tho, the stencil idea is a pretty good. a good wahl trimmer with guards and shit..
