I can never create anything unless there is a string quartet of the finest calibre assembled in the same room as myself - which can be quite a bind if you dont know any string quartets. Also you have to have quite large rooms and deaf neighbours so I dont write much.
One other ritual I have to go through if I am trying to write fiction is a parachute jump from 46000 feet - - then afterwards I have to go and pick strawberries or other fruit if its not the season. Otherwise I just cant do a chapter

I need to be listening to some Cool Jazz to write. Something by Mingus or Brubeck.

uhmmmm I think habits depends also of what you write.

I write mostly in the nights, and also I feel a very creative power when it's raining.
I've always liked when raining, I feel relaxed, the sound ( even if it's raining a lot or it's a nice short summer rain ) makes me more creative I've noticed.

I have to say also what I use to write, I write romance novels, almost all are about love ( love between lovers, in a family or friends etc ) some have erotic elements too.

Also the cold helps me to write. I mean when outside it's cold and I'm inside in my cosy place :) .
I can't listen music when writting I need to be alone with my mind and feelings.

I have some of my weirder ideas when it's raining. Not just weirder, but they tend to be the beter kind of weird too. THe kind you modify slightly and keep once you've sobered up.

Depends on what I plan on writing...If it's some kind of stream-of-conscience piece, I set my typewriter on my bed and get to it, and if someone interrupts me I get really bitchy; my thoughts always move better and faster if I'm listening to some quick-paced jazz. If I feel like being meticulous and obscure, I have a smoke, put on some indie or americana, maybe watch the stars for a bit or go to the beach and then write, always with pen and paper if I feel like being meticulous.

Might have asked this before, but does anyone else find it a hell of a lot easier to write with pen and paper than on a computer?

I find that when I sit down on my computer, I can write really good context and great dialouge. But I never know where I'm going with it.

But When I make notes on paper, then the plot and theme seem to become really cohesive.

I'm not sure why. Maybe I just tend to focus differently when I'm writing on different mediums.

i feel that i write better by hand. when i'm on the computer, it's easier to edit and all, but i just don't like it. it might be that my computer is in the dining room where anyone can see what i'm writing. i like to keep my stuff private.

i can never seem to stick to a story anyway. i have a hundred pieces of stories, but none are complete. :)

i dont have my own comp. to write wit but that would be nice.... so everything i write is on paper..... i always have to have music playing when i start to write something...i never know what it will look like but what ever im listining to determines (to a degree) what my writing will end up like

I don't know if it is 'strange' or not, but I tend to base MY characters on myself, in combination with others I know.

I don't think when I write, I just let it go... and see what it does for itself.

I also tend to chain-smoke while writing.

I write in spurs... I can write 10 pages in 20 minutes, but the second I stop, it all ends. Can't ever stop, no sir, can't ever stop.

I am very conservative with my writing. Unfortunately everything I write is very serious and can appear boring to the non-academic. I like to spend years researching material for my posts and for that reason I don't get much time to contribute as much in the writers forum as I should. Possibly my favourite form of writing is using a magnifying glass to burn the sunrays on paper. My favourite dish is Peking duck.

That's interesting--I do almost all my writing on my computer, but now and then there comes a time when writing by hand seems more needful. I write an awful lot, though, and later realize that what I've written is not so good, and discard it.

I only uses the computer when I'm writing the stories, but when I'm drunk, stoned or if it's raining, I grab a pen and scratches down a LOT of more or less bizarre, but still "normal" if you know what I mean, ideas. some good, some not.

When I write I like to use my eyes and my hands. Sometimes my brain. too.

i do have some unusual writing habits, come to think of it...recently (though not tonight) i wrote very often, and lots, almost manically, obsessed, absorbed, blocking out everything....

at other times, there is no interest, ideas. or flow
