Hey, new here... Anyone into lofi indie/folk/pop/alt? I do a lot of 4-track cassette recording under the name Whole Wheat... Been doing it since the 90's and randomly getting back into it the past year. Been posting some things on soundcloud. Fans of Beck, Sebadoh, Ariel Pink, Mac Demarco, and some hiss and grime might appreciate... Lyrically a little bleak, but hey, life. Would love to connect with other artists with a similar feel, hit me up. Here's a more recent joint: https://soundcloud.com/whole-wheat/give-you-my-all Any newer suggestions of similar artists would be cool too, tons to wade thru nowadays. Thanks, look forward to meeting some ppl here. WW
pretty cool song. some other "lo-fi" bands that i like (taht are on the list of lo-fi bands at wikipedia): PAVEMENT The XX say hi (to your mom) a couple songs from American Analog Set, Grandaddy, Eels, LOGH, iron and wine and holy shit, i guess my favorite band is considered lo-fi: Built to Spill and modest mouse too
yeah built to spill is great... Ever listen to the halo benders? i think 2 members from B2S including Doug were in it. One of my favs... god don't make no junk is one of my fav albums.
i just don't like the other guy's voice in halo benders. calvin something? i like the song Virginia reel around the fountain - but built to spill's version better. On a Tip is another good some by halo benders. i've seen built to spill play twice, and i have 7 of their CDs, plus 2 other albums on my hard drive.
yeah, calvin johnson... his voice is definitely love or hate. he runs k records, IMO one of the best labels around for years: http://krecs.com/artists/ he was also in beat happening which is another old fav of mine.
Lo-fi to me was a name for an attitude, low fidelity in sound quality (such as early Daniel Johnston tapes, which sounded like those I made thirty years ago) but also in terms of basic song construction, like The Ramones or Half Japanese. And then in the late 80s my friends and I heard of this american stuff which had taken up the term 'lo-fi' and made it into something that was theirs, and I stopped using it.
Yeah, wouldn't call myself a junkie, but i love lo fi, Ariel Pink being my best example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faTDG5nyoF8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-Kmp9hkyWw
