Janis played guitar and autoharp, as well as assorted percussion. She wrote and performed with both live before being teamed with BigBrother, and again later in the studio. She had a big hand in the arrangements of the songs she performed and recorded, down to keys and chord progressions. This included horn sections, guitar lines, bass lines, as well as her own vocal parts. Some of my fave work of hers is the early work with her playing her own acoustic and singing alone.
I think you should check out Coo Coo and Down On Me. Those are the most killerest songs I've ever heard.
'work me lord' on Kozmic Blues... a phenomenal, heart-wrenching, and intense song that gives me chills.
Yeah, fair point. It actually wasn't meant as a personal attack but it was pretty childish. Sorry about that. Guess some of us never grow up. Worse, that goddam 'importance of being idle' or whatever it's called is growing on me! Arrghhh. As for Janis Joplin. Well, one day you may just start liking her. When I was in my 20's, I didn't like, mainly because the only songs I heard were the ones where she tends to just screech, or sing too high. But where she uses her range and power, and you listen, carefully to the remarkable control she actually had over her voice, her musical awareness of what the band is doing, and how blues should be sung. There really is no equal.
