She wasn't much of a musician (all she did was sing, and she wasn't very good at that), but my favourite song of "her's" is "Down On Me."

janis sang and arranged most all of the music she did, and played multiple instruments. For only one song, you must hear her rendition of Summertime.

That's the same I would recommend...the first time I heard Summertime I hated it,but after really giving it a listen,I loved it and still do. I don't think anyone could come close to touching her vocals on that song.

Her voice is amazing, and like her or not most people have an opinion of her, a sure mark of greatness. Personally, I love her sound, one of my fave voices of all time and super talented.

Too many people listen to what has been said about Janis, and not enough listening TO Janis.

She's one of the greatest female blues/rock singers. Ever. She was so good she didn't need to play anything, but could play guitar better than Noel Gallagher (not difficult), sing better than Liam (especially, not difficult), put on a better stage show than Oasis ever will (really not difficult) and this all from 1967 - 1970! Has music gone backwards or what?

Songs? The immense 'Ball and Chain', with her first band Big Brother and the Holding Company. A major blues, Big Moma Thornton classic that they changed in a blaze of musical genius to a minor blues with awesome effect.

'Piece of My Heart' off the Cheap Thrills album

    'Maybe' off Pearl album

    'Move Over' ditto

    'Little Girl Blue'

If that was your attempt at a lame personal attack, you failed. ;)

Look, just because I love Oasis, doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about. The guy said "she played multiple instruments" ... bullshit. She couldn't play shit, and she was nowhere near Noel's level on guitar.. obviously.

Liam sucks nowadays, but throughout the 90s he was one of rock's greatests vocalists. Ever. He wasn't very talented, though.. it doesn't take much to sing, as history has shown us (unless you sing opera).

Oasis have never been good live, just like Janis had never been good at anything but getting famous off of other peoples' work just because people thought her hideous voice was halfway decent.
