I had a go at Hula Hooping today! I never had a Hula Hoop as a kid, so this is all new to me. I was surprised I actually worked up quite a sweat, and I discovered stomach & lower back muscles I never knew I had. This is a surprisingly good workout, as well as being fun. I do need to work on keeping the hoop up in the air though, but it is fun learning. It's true, you really do feel better after a workout - kind of like a workout high! I have a fair bit of weight to lose, over 2 stone, so I'm hoping I'm taking a step in the right direction! Are there any other Hula Hoopers out there? :grouphug:
my mom was known for being a very good hooper, i didnt know they still made them though. although i guess i should have known because they are in that rhythmic dance thing in the Olympics
The new hoops are larger/heavier. And can come with led lights, fire wicks or weights. They have come a long way!
I tried it recently too and loved it. A friend of mine does it a lot and showed me how to do it, she can keep it going for ages and even her 10 year old can do it better than me but I want to practise. She says she got her waist back doing that
if i could get my waist back from that i would do it all the time. but the only thing i will work out is my arms from swinging the hoop around my waist then my back from picking it up when i fail from being able to keep the hoop up around my waist.
Yay, we have hoopers! pensfan13 - I really worked my arms too, I was so surprised to feel the sore muscles just under my arms going to my armpits. At first, I didn't think about having to hold my arms up out of the way (until they stopped the hoop from rotating!), but I certainly get to use my muscles doing that too! And my back will have had plenty of exercise bending to pick up the dropped hoop! About how long did it take the rest of you to learn to not drop the hoop and keep it going? It is a bit like a foreign concept to me!
Not dropping? I learned at String Cheese shows in the 90s, so I'd say my second show I "got it" enough to get through a few songs,in a row, maybe 15-20 min. By the end of the week, my then sweetie would have to stop the hoop and get me to mentally land. Tricks were much harder and I still flub those with regularity. The trick to keeping a hoop up is to speed up right when you feel a slip.
