Wow Bird, that's inspiring (I was already thinking of trying to do something similar)! Got no tips and certainly no FL tricks since I still have to begin but you are on the right track with the depth in the sound of the different kinds of drums. Classic how it makes up the complete rhythm (but with reggae/dub I prefer it to be classic ((or rootsy)) anyway!). Ok, I would try to make it sound less digital, especially that higher tone of the leading melody (yes I suck at technical terms), the bass/beat sounds ok to me. Another sound that you could add well timed and sporadically is that of a ratchet (ratel ), it would add both to the rhythm and music and give it a slightly more organic/analog feel :cheers2:
Yeah I've fucked with fruity loops lol...I've also spent hours on the same bar changing up the synth settings to lol
Thanks, I find it still quite hard to find the right mix of drums, bass, piano, guitar and some random little sounds that I put in here and there. The drums here are basically an intro as there will be lots more added to make it a bit more rhythmic. I find it also hard to make it sound more organic as it is made exclusively digital. I hope someone here can give me some tips. A ratchet is a great idea, I'll try to fit it in somewhere! There is no melodyline to this loop yet, as I plan to add vocals instead of an instrumental melody.
Yeah, I guess I ment the higher tones of the piano and that other really high and digital sounding tone. They make it sound too much like an easy made digital dub. But I think the rhythm and little random sounds are coming together (it already sounds fairly solid). Just because it is made exclusively digital doesn't mean it has to sound like that btw! But I can imagine that's exactly the trick Here's one of the examples I got the idea off of trying to create something similar (or at least with the same vibe)!: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUjOIqJvzbs"]Sound Iration - C.T.U.F.B. - YouTube Another example of the same dub band: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNUhf_kg6Ek"]Sound Iration - Free 1 - YouTube
I see your point, that piano I use does indeed sound very highpitched and electronic compared to those. Especially the first song you posted has a nice sound to it. I might try some things, like ditching the piano for a guitar to make it a bit smoother and deeper, but there is also something about a piano I like. It's definately worth playing around with. :2thumbsup: So you're creating something similar as well? All digital or with 'real' instruments?
I've recorded a couple of cracking tunes with Logic Express but have never used FL.I hear it's pretty good now.
Yeah it has come a long way and it's an excellent DAW now, but the stigma of the old 'Fruity Loops' is still haunting FL Studio. Some of the VST's that come included aren't the best ones, but you can always find (free) good replacements. Some other VST's are excellent and I often use them (like Sytrus). For live recording it's probably not the best one. The workflow is excellent, as is automation. All in all I'm sticking with FL, it does all that I expect from a respectable DAW.
No, only in my head so far But I have thought on a regular basis about doing something really similar. Especially when I'm listening to a lot of dub (which basicly has all the characteristics you have in your track as well). If I could do it with real instruments I would, but the easiest/quickest way for me would also be to give it a go with a program like Fruity loops... so I should download a copy
http://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php Good thing about FL is that if you buy any version you get a lifetime of free updates. I got the producer edition and for that kind of money I actually rather support the company by giving them my money instead of downloading an illegal copy.
