Four more statues bite the dust……….

A protester climbed up and wrapped a strap around the neck of a statue on a Confederate monument in North Carolina and pulled it down.

A second statue on the other side of the monument was also pulled down, according to footage taken on Friday by WRAL The statues were at the state capitol in Raleigh. Protesters then marched down the street and hung both statues from a light post on the street.

In Washington, DC, protesters toppled a statue of Albert Pike in the Judiciary Square neighborhood, Pike was a senior officer of the Confederate States Army.

A crowd gathered in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur GA Thursday night to watch the removal of a confederate monument after the city argued it'd become a threat to public safety. A judge ordered it removed and placed in storage until further notice.

I wonder why it’s taken so long to get rid of the offensive statues and the confederate flag. After all their cause was predicated on the idea it was OK to own other human beings, attempts to say otherwise are right wing rubbish. I can’t imagine a statue of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg would have lasted very long.

    Finally, after two hundred years……………………

The state of Rhode Island is moving to eliminate the second half of its official name, “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations” in response to activists’ claims that it serves as a painful reminder of slavery.

Governor Gina Raimondo signed an executive order on Monday calling for the governor’s office and agencies under the direction of the governor to halt the use of the second part of the official name, “and Providence Plantations,” as soon as possible. The name will read as just “Rhode Island” on government documents. The state seal may also be altered to eliminate the phrase.

One could ask - why has it taken so long ??? given that slavery was abolished in the US following the Civil War more than 150 years ago !!!

Maybe they’ll stop if we let them loot

maybe they’ll stop if we let them arson

maybe they’ll stop if we let them riot

maybe they’ll stop if we let them topple statues

maybe we’ll let them stop if we let them set up autonomous zones

maybe they’ll stop if we rename locations that they deem offensive

And on, and on, and on...

Some of those statues are pretty cool, so for that reason, I hate to see them destroyed. What they represent is another story, though, and they shouldn't be displayed in public--at least not without a plaque explaining what an asshole the person was.

It's kind of like the great cathedrals in England. They're beautiful to look at and walk through, even though they represent pain and suffering throughout history to a lot of people.

140 people in Chicago that had died as a result of shootings the past weekend have been resurrected from the dead. "Its a miracle" said one family member. Some speculated the phenomena might be tied to the toppling of abolitionist Col. Hans Christian Heg statue..

Why don’t black people ever talk about black-on-black crime?

Instead of rejecting the entire notion as a method of deflection and privilege, we will attempt to formally dismiss the conversation forever by laying out the facts about why white America never hears us talk about black-on-black crime.

FBI’s uniform crime-reporting data for 2016, 90.1 percent of black victims of homicide were killed by other blacks, while 83.5 percent of whites were killed by other whites. While no life is inconsequential, the statistical evidence shows that—just as for blacks when it comes to black-on-black crime—whites are mostly victimized by other whites, with the vast majority of white murders committed by whites. This is because most victims of crime personally know their assailants. And while this is a truth across racial boundaries, no one ever talks about “white-on-white crime.”

Furthermore, the Bureau of Justice Statistics’ arrest data analysis tool shows that less than 1 percent of blacks overall (about 2 percent of black men) commit a violent crime in any given year. This means, factoring in interracial violent offenses, 99 percent of black men do not commit black-on-black crime.

It has nothing to do with what we are talking about.
Imagine the head of Homeland Security walking up to the microphone to hold a press conference after a horrific terrorist attack, but when reporters start asking him about stopping terrorism and catching the culprits, he begins talking about texting and driving.

    Sounds stupid, right?

But distracted driving kills more Americans each year than terrorism (and black-on-black crime), according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, so, according to the advocates of conversations about black-on-black crime, we should be discussing this first.

It is true that the vast majority of black murders are committed by black men, and we should do something to combat that statistic (we will get to that later, I promise), but that fact has nothing to do with state violence. When anyone interrupts a discussion about Black Lives Matter by bringing up black-on-black crime, it sounds as stupid as if a doctor addressed a cancerous brain tumor by asking about domestic violence,

My paste looks terrible Here is a link to the article Why We Never Talk About Black-on-Black Crime: An Answer to White America’s Most Pressing Question

I hate that lame Fox News come back "what about Chicago" its just cheap and lame.

The Dixie Chicks are dropping Dixie from their name, and the Mississippi legislature will vote to change the State Flag which is expected to pass.

The Governor has threatened to veto the legislation but it’s expected to be veto proof with 2/3 of the majority in favor in of eliminating the confederate flag portion.

It would seem that a more important honor to US troops than standing for a national anthem would be preserving the country they died for. Worry too much about a meaningless song or statue and you become a nationalist not a patriot.
