Another Holiday season and another year of disagreement

I never had a problem with saying, or hearing, "Merry Christmas". But I never considered Christmas a religious holiday. It's just now a more accepted title for the holiday than Yule, which has been around a whole lot longer than Christmas.

But when the Catholic Church and it's Knights of Columbus came up with those obnoxious car magnets that say, "keep Christ in Christmas", I no longer use that term.

And, besides, there are other holidays during the holiday season so "Happy Holidays" is more appropriate anyway. So, Christians, please keep you religion to yourselves and let the majority enjoy their holidays.

 

i prefer to ignore the "they're attacking christmas" people, or at most make fun of them for their imagined complaint. buying into the false divisiveness doesn't really accomplish anything except making them feel like they're right.

 

When I run into those guys I explain what Yule is all about and how christians stole my holiday... That usually shuts them up.

 

i put my prayer hands together, bow slightly, and say "nemeste", and then they think i'm a hare krishna and run like hell.

people can call the mid winter solstice anything they want. its still the midwinter solstice.
except in the southern hemisphere, where its the summer solstice.

of course you can't ignore the fact that the only privileged twats griping over what people call the day are the ones who cry if someone calls it anything other than christmas.

i've never in my life heard someone who prefers to say happy holidays say anything against people who say merry christmas. but so many people who say merry christmas see the existence of the words "happy holidays" as a personal attack on them.

 

I think the real war on Christmas isn't non Christians wanting Christmas removed from existence or whatever the right is claiming, its Christians banning non Christians from participating. I agree...the keep Christ in Christmas thing is annoying because the message is it's an exclusive holiday. Santa Claus doesn't discriminate. Why should Jesus? It's no like pagans are bent out of shape because kids are trick or treating without knowing the cultural roots of Halloween
