It’s the Dutch that have to go. They’re the problem.

Hey, I’m just saying what everyone is thinking.

It does put pressure on them if our markets are leading by example toward greener insulation. It's sets a precedent at least. If people buy in to it (and the problem here is probably the theoretical green insulation costing exponentially more than what the Chinese currently produce) it sort of makes the Chinese reconsider their strategy.

What if we have already doomed ourselves, just dont know it yet, and it takes us another 100 years to work out exactly how

Looking around the web, we need 0.001 to 0.0025 sq klms to grow food to sustain 1 human being

Total land mass of earth is 149 million sq klm

    149 million / 0.0025 = 60 billion people

And thats assuming no soil erosion, sea levels remain unchanged, and doesnt take into account the area those 60 billion people are living in, and assumes 100% efficiency with that land and water thats availiable and not contaminated

There is an upper bound on how many humans the earth can support, its about that, and we will get to 60 billion within 500 years

I was under the impression this was the case and we’re passed the point of no return. I don’t fucking know.

No way the earth is getting to 60 billion people.
We already don't like one another with only 5 billion. :p

60 billion? Oh there will be war. Probably 40 billion LBGT queer army. FtW! Led by Irminsul the Insurmountable.

Do you still get your population stats from your birth year?

Not entirely sure what that means?

I was born in 1987 if that helps your query. :) I'm not sure how many people were living across the world though.

That only holds true for ice that is floating in water.
Melting land based ice will flow into the oceans and add to what's already there.

Ten percent of the land mass of the world is under glaciers. They contain about 75 percent of the fresh water in the world.

    Lol! You dumbass!
10% of an iceberg is not in the water. You need to calculate that. :p

I consider this possible, and is part of why I would like to see increased intensity in going into space.
On one level I really don't think it matters whether humanity survives or not...
but then what's the point in anything?
I believe in the perpetuation of the species because otherwise there is no point.
Except to enjoy life and have fun, which I do.
Incidentally I wouldn't enjoy being part of the destruction, which is why I take my pointless measures to change the way I live, as if reusing a shopping bag might save the planet.
If we DO ever get to colonizing other worlds, it would be good to start on the right foot and reuse shopping bags from day one. So we might as well ingrain the ideas.

Climate change is an important topic right?

So one should easily be able to find somewhere that tells you tje total volume of glacial ice last year vs say 30 years ago

    Right?

You want to ask yourself why that isnt the case.

The problem is too complicated, ice melts into the ocean, sea levels arent going to rise by the same volume, the water pressure increases in all oceans ever so slightly, but not uniformly, water pressure near the equator is offset by the earths rotation.

Only 2.5% of the earths total water was fresh water, including glacial ice.

It is the case that we never knew how much sea levels would rise if all the ice melted, but instead of anyone ever admitting we dont know we get these crazy theories.

In the meanwhile, there is more ice in the Antartic since measurements began. A lot of glaciers in the northern hemisphere have melted, most if the ice in the artic melts every summer, but also freezes in winter faster than ever.....and yet, the Maldives are still above water

bottom line is, if you've built your house close to the water, move...or sue the real estate agent that sold it to you

So we don’t have to worry about the ice?

What if the ocean reaches a certain desalination point like in The Day After Tomorrow and we have to lock ourselves in a room next to a fireplace or else we freeze to death by a growing wave of sub arctic temperatures?
