Might as well just recreate dinosaurs at that point, might make the whole hunting thing alot more interesting too.

LOLz, message seems clear does it?

So what is that message then? Please share

1 billion viewers, thats only 13% of the worlds population. So 87% of the worlds population dont get the message.

How many birds were on the planet 1/2 million years ago before humans existed versus the number of birds on the planet today that arent chickens?

Birds are a bad example, because the number of pidgeons and seagulls has probably exploded alongside human expansion as they feed off our scraps, and they would techically be wild. And every 10th person has a bird for a pet, so there are probably more canaries and parrots than ever before.

There would also be a shitload more rats and mice on the planet than ever before. Definitely a shitload more domestic cats and dogs. Feral cats being one of the worst offenders when it comes to killing wildlife

There would be less larger mammals and less diversity amongst them, no argument there

But what if the total number of animals that arent humans in the world has increased?

The worlds total biomass has been increasing, this has been known for decades, there is more flora, vegetation on the earth than ever before.

So what exactly is the message? We all turn to vegans, kill our pet cats, set a lot if traps for all the rats and pidgeons, email the 87% of people that didnt get the message, especially the ones too poor to own a phone.

How many of those 1 Billion viewers will have chicken for dinner within 7 days of watching the program?

NPR News was interviewing some of them the other day. All the people I heard intrrviewed were teens, which makes me sad for them that previous generations let them down, but also hopeful for the future

    So whats the message then?

Asmo said Attenborough said 70% of the birds on the planet are poultry. Message seems clear. Without typing out what the message is.

So some one can start off by telling me. I didnt watch the program, then you can all work on the other 6.6 Billion people that also didnt watch it.

So whats this message that seems clear? Do we get rid of all the chickens

Pretty sure the message is that we're in the midst of a a great mass extinction primarily caused by human activity.

Not sure what you're getting at honestly but I think chickens are a bit besides the point except to illustrate that domesticate animals outnumber wild ones now.

There are problems more serious than others though. Certain problems I think are going to be more of an issue in the future than others. We have all our priorities in the wrong order.

Plastic being one of those problems we are underestimating at the moment. Stuff last for 10,000 years, no matter what, breaks down into smaller and smaller bits, ends up in the water supply, thus food supply and finally into our very cells. Oceans full of plastic will kill all the mammals in the ocean, we are only 50 years into mass production of plastic, what happens in 500 years.

A billion euros to rebuild Notre Dame?, you could build a thousand of those Ocean cleanup plastic collectors for that price.

How much of stuff made out of plastic do we really need?, that cant be made out of wood or metal.

We need to reduce reliance on plastic and concrete.

Also of course,we need to address the main problem, the number of humans

We could have made great progress with plastic if people acknowledged the planet can be ruined. As of now the capitalist free market sees plastic as the cheap option. When people think that regulations make share holders mad no one does anything. This is the same reason why global warming is a "myth". If it's not it means people make less money.

If we limit the amount of people on Earth it's an ethical issue. Are you prepared to tell the average Evangelical American they can not have 12 kids? They already think AOC is a Muslim plot to end the white race since she said the same thing as you. For us Americans it would mean the goverment is telling people how to live. I agree with you but it's hard to get past the religious and cultural ignorance. The Bible says you will be fruitful and multiply.

Well yeah....these are certainly issues but unregulated capitalism is the bottom line in the US for environmental issues. As an economist this falls under the heading “market imperfections”. The unregulated economy does a terrible job of issues like public goods, inter generational equity, and distribution across society. And a “market solution” looks to be a day late and a dollar short.

No, individuals are the bottom line

Everyone of us has a responsibility before whining about the government or evil capitalists that sell us the plastic shit we dont really need

First I sure do and I never said I was some special person who was not using modern convince and technology which can pollute.

Second I'm not sure why you would reply that. No matter what you just want to be angry I guess.

Did any of you watch it?
Made me scared but then hopeful.
It must be really frustrating to be the guy who was telling these predictions to the government in 1988.

Humans thinking we can't do enough to change this is what got us here in the first place.. Thinking we'd never be able to destroy it.

I agree with all of this. And i dont really like to think about what it will do to the planet after 500 years of accumulatiom. Thats a scary thought
