    yeah, get yourself a sorta coop going, where you help support the raising of the cows and pay for the slaughter. dave likes to get as involved as possible so that he can learn about the butchering process and keep a close eye on the quality of the work. we'd rather do it ourselves.

    No, I do not eat eggs or dairy either; I'm vegan and I don't any animal products at all. Nor do I buy leather, fur ...or any products tested on animals.


    Mynameiskc, it doesn't bother me so much if people are hunting for their own food. However, factory farms are heinous, and most people in the U.S. eat animals that came from factory farms. I do not agree with hunting for recreation or for the fur industry.

    This is how I think in a nutshell:

    Lay all of your options out on the table... choose the most compassionate option possible (even if it means going the extra mile).

    Humans can live completely healthfully on a plant based diet, so why harm animals if you don't have to?
    It is so simple, yet it is beyond so many people.

    that's very reasonable, i think. though i'm a staunch dissenter on the whole animals shouldn't be eaten by people rule. i am, however, VERY much a trooper in the fight against wasteful usage of our valuable ecosystem.

    Its much easier to be a vegetarian if your female. For men who tend to have a more muscular build its important to have a higher protein diet. Indeed people who regularly attend the gym will take a certian amount of red meat because it contains very high quality protein but a lot of fat so you actually work out how many days you take red meat, chicken and dairy products etc. Humans obviously can surivive perfectly well on a vegetarian diet but it is sub-optimal, particularly for muscle generation but also in any area that uses protein (basically tissue building).

    I do my best not to use products tested on animals, nor do I use fur (though as a male thats fairly easy). I have campagined against seal clubbing and whale hunting in the past. I eat animals because I believe that animal protein is part of a healthy human diet I have canine teeth, my stomach contains the enzyme protease, all of the closest genetic species are omnivorous and most of all it feels right and in something as fundamental as eating thats important. I agree that we should not cause suffering where we dont have to but where food comes into it I see the rules as being completely different, we are not acting on some cultural whim it is something we do as part of our natural ecosystem, in this context I see a Sheep the way a Lion ssees a Gazelle (though I guess the mint sauce maybe a cultural whim).

    so basically.....im weak cause im a veg man? do some reasearch there have been olympic gold medalists and body builders in those strongman competitions who have been vegan...it just depends on how well you can arrange your diet and how disciplined you are to stick to it

    No not weak sub-optimal. Our body has enzymes that are far less efficient at gettting protein from plants than from animals. But its a bit like driving down a motorway in 3rd gear, it'll work but it aint the most efficient way to go about it.

    Oh that is just BS.

    I am extremeley muscular for a girl, or, well.. for any person at all. And I'm vegan. Mi biceps are as big as my brother's who eats meat and works out. (I'm not making this up.) Maybe I'm a complete anamoly, but don't say that it's hard to maintain muscle mass on a vegan diet until you've tried it.

    The World Health Federation says to get 10 percent of your calories from protein. Most fruit and vegetables alone are comprised of protein by 10%. Adding on soy, nuts, seeds, legumes... you've got enough, if not more than enough for bodybuilding.

    The problem with Americans is that they eat TOO MUCH protein. And too much of certain proteins inhibit calcium absorption, which is why people have so much osteoporosis in this country.

    Ok, I'm officially done with this thread. Too tired of explaining the same basics over and over to people who know absolutely nothing about animal rights but already have "scientific arguments" against it that they just made up.

    I also get annoyed with made up scientific-arguments.

    Also, it annoys me when people either ignore or forget that AR applies to humans because we are animals. Why do people always ignore that simple biological fact? It's something you learn in like the 3rd grade. Are people really that stupid or is this just more proof that the public school system is as bad as I think it is?
