Awwwwwwww i love those programs LOL. (na just kidding) although i don't like the idea of it, in a few of the cases that they showed they were actually changing the life of the people. (this is extreme makeover, NOT the swan)

such as the woman with the extra skin on the lips, which would effectivly sdtop her getting a BF.

although i totally agree that people should be happy with their personal image and such.

its a tough moral issue, that society of current times will need to grapple with, unfortunatly most people in our current society are to stupid LOL..

As for the swan/extreme - yes, some of those people could perhaps be better off with surgery - But i hate the way the progarmme exploits their insecurities about their looks to make a buck. Futhermore, in cases like the lady with the lips, I don't like the way they don't just fix the lips, they chop and suck every last inch of her body. It hardly sets a good example for the flawed youth watching. Finally, I feel sorry for the husbands/wives of the victims who married one person and get another....it's just just too god damn extreme.
I'm REALLY not a fan.

Also - meh, are your favourite animals really birds? eeww, eeew, ewww. they terrify me....
