I agree society has become a big problem but I don't believe you need to result to violence to bring about change(Ghandi comes to mind).

Bush said he would bring the troops home after the war was over. Didn't they officially declare it over ages ago? Enough can't be said about Bush's mentality, as in, he hasn't got one. I feel sorry for those Americans who have soldiers as family members and friends. When they went to war, their president did not give a shit if they ever came back and i don't believe he has ever shed a tear for their lives after being lost. In my opinion.

    Not quite:

Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. (Applause.) And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/05/iraq/20030501-15.html

In this reality he did though

    http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/forum.cgi?read=72187

The seemingly endless violence of the insurgency continues as we speak.. we won't be 'Bringing our boys home' untill the Iraqi forces can cope...

Do you think YOUR president gives a shit ?.

Gandhi liberated 300 million Indians without firing a single shot. THAT is power. In the process, he took great steps to conserve the respect, goodwill and alliance of the British.

I don't doubt that Iraq was suffering horribly under Saddam, but why did "we" settle so quickly on war as the only option? A little more intelligent attention may have shown a better way to resolve this problem. As it is now, "Shock and Awe" has only allowed more fear and hatred to enter into the situation. You don't really think it's just going to go away, do you?

If one has enough wisdom, creativity, compassion, one can accomplish anything. This world can be free from terrorism, miltarism, corporate governance, intolerance, violence, and so on. But to do so, we have to become wiser, more creative, more compassionate, more truthful than we have been. We have to figure out a better way. Otherwise, the violence we send out into the world will return to us as more violence, and the unresolved problems we ignore today will only continue to waste lives and postpone the possibilities.

    Please respond.

    Peace and Love

Oh yeah I also think this thread is funny, because the debate has already been won even though people are still trying to prove their points.....what is left to prove? zoomie and hippypaul said it all (rhyme).....They said it all witht heir experiences. Zoomie said "Tell me that war is good when you are washing a friends brains off of your equipment".......And I have spoken with HippyPaul before about Vietnam.....My dad was in Vietnam, not only was he in vietnam, but he was a sniper in vietnam, airborne, recon......Since that time He has picked up a gun once...and that was because I like to shoot and I had pestered him from the time i was a child until i was about 16 to shoot with me, so he did one day (excellent shot btw) fired like 3 times and hasnt since then......Talk to him about war....
Like I said in another THREAD-
Do you remember when you were a kid and someone had a toy that you wanted so you bomped them on the head with your kungfu grip GI Joe?......Thats basically what war is....One leader sees something that another leader has that he wants so he goes and bomps him on the head.....Now do we want people with that kind of a 3 year old mindset running nations? I think not......the sad par tis that these guys think they have the right to involve the whole playground.

I realise.. typo. i mean Gandhi may have not killed anyone but others did. By the the time Gahdhi came along independance was a foregone conclusion.. it suited both partys.. violence was not going solve the issue anymore. His outspoken determination to quell extremists into 'none violence' was imho admirable..

I agree war is illogical and counter productive.. and i do wish 'give peace a chance' solved all the issues of the world on all sides and everybody could solve there differnces through peaceful dialouge.. never going to happen though...as to have a illogical goal as Al-Quaeda and have them never wish to use diplomacy..end with ongoing 'war'.. They stop we stop... The ongoing attacks by Al-quaeda on anyone and everyone has become ridiculouse..

I wish the same level of disgust was given to Al-quaeda...i don't think there into universal love of mankind somehow.
