Originals are usually better but one remake I thought was really good was Last House on the Left. I didn't like the original but liked the new one. Almost didn't want to see it but it was good.

I read the book this summer, and it was hard to put down!!!!

I Have seen most of the movies, and I would say I enjoy watching the first original one better.

Definitely the 1979 version. It was, and remains, the best horror movie I have ever seen...and I have seen a lot. When I have a couple of hours to spare, I will get into all the reasons I prefer the original. The 2005 version was so seriously f*cked up, it should not even have had "Amityville" in the title! Just a complete disgrace.

Old version for the win! But I believe the overall winner is the book. Scary as hell, even though I think its a hoax. I especially love demonology, although I do not believe in demons.

According to Stephen King “economic unease” maintains the film and the release in 1979 could not have come along at a more opportune moment with the US economy in crisis.

The family could barely afford to buy the house only to suffer from one catastrophe to the next plumbing, heating, electrical :(

I have yet to see the new one, but I remember being impressed by the original. I also liked the sequel made in 1982 because of Diane Franklin. Beautiful girl! *tries to pick up jaw*

You’re undoubtedly referring to the scene in which she poses naked on the bed for her (then) possessed brother only too eager to engage in a little love making

Like every remake , the old one is better . The whole thing was faked , based on Ronnie Defeo who murdered his whole family . However there was no demonic presences or any such nonsense . None of that stuff ever happened .
The book WAS better than either . It was more scary then any of the movies .

    Scariest movie goddamn ever.

I can't watch this alone. I need to be surrounded by friends with all the lights on.

it is one the most creepy to me, and not much scares me in movies.. its just very old and also simple, til the end where it gets kinda dumb. but the beginning with the child chair, flies, and la la music. it really does bend ya..

when you study the actual truth behind it to whats portrayed in the movie, you realise yet again, that "based on a true story" really only means that the street name was correct and everything else a facade. :(
