Remember this movie from 1979? It takes place in Southern Cali in 1998 where the worlds supply of gas,oil,etc... have just run out. Now people walk, bike and rollerskate to work and live in their cars. Electricity is still available, but everything is coin-operated....In a desparate rush to save the planet, the president (played by John Ritter) and his staff set up a special TV marathon--hence the name "Americathon 1998"--to raise money for the cause. Sounds like a good movie! (As most were then) www.amazon.com/dp/6301650433 (Look at that price!!) I dunno how good it is BUT I DO KNOW ITS SHOCKINGLY CLOSE TO DEPICTING WHATS COMING!!!!!! Isnt it amazing how movies OFTEN TURN OUT TO BE REAL EVENTS?
It isn't that close to reality. 'Shockingly close' might be overstating it. But it does sound funny. The federal government, housed in "The Western White House" (a sub-leased condominium in Marina del Rey, California), is near national bankruptcy and in danger of being foreclosed and repossessed by a cartel of Native Americans in control of Nike (which has been renamed "National Indian Knitting Enterprise").
