OK, can we get back on topic now? Leave it to the war mongers to get us off-topic, yet again. Just to remind you what the topic is...
I was against the war 100% before the first shot was fired, and have been ever since. It was a totally inexcusable action that had one goal-the control of the country with the world's second largest oil reserves. And, as Skip said, we're bringing "American Christian Values" to that country-right. "American" Christianity has nothing to do with real Christianity, and is based on the premise that "America is the greatest country on earth because God made it that way." Bullshit. Christianity says to do unto others the way you would have them do unto you, and to love even your enemies. Alll that this "American Christianity" is good for is to give Americans a false sense of superiority, which is totally undeserved anyway. I agree with fountains of nay that the Brits (the government, that is) have their share of responsibility in this. I am very disappointed in the Labor Government for supporting such an immoral endeavor. The Labor Party had a history of being anti-war and the like, and being on the side of the underdog. Obviously not anymore.
Yes, the superiority thing isn't just over done and false, it's actually degrading to all life on this planet. We can see the "fruits" of such thinking just in the fact that we have so many wars going on, all at the same time: Wars on Afghanistan, Iraq, Terrorism, Drugs all costing us billions a month! In fact Bush epitomizes the attitude of many self-righteous Americans who can see nothing wrong with our country doing things unilaterally, with few if any remaining friends. I see that as the legacy for Bush too, one day. He can't even campaign in public anymore, as no candidate wants his/her face in an image with him... Ooooh, sorta like corsorting with the devil, no? But doesn't every politician do that?
even if america does pull out of iraq it will only be ten years from now that america will be engaged in another war. my own feeling is that the invasion of the middle east is a permanent thing. no one commits so much time and money to one thing without expecting some return.
well those were truly terrifying and sad, all the more reason to be againt iraq. course things were even worse under SH
i posted some of those pictures here: http://umaine.************/wall.php?id=2207515106 PEOPLE JUST DO NOT GET IT. stupid idiots! look for my posting. i quoted skip and used his pictures to show these people.

Sometimes it does. You ever thought of why any country goes to war? Because unless you are a soldier or family member of one it doesn't really affect you. Ever thought of why there has been more resistance to war in general(which has been around for as long as civilization) in the past couple decades than all the centuries before? It's called iconic imagery. Because now those who are back home calling the shots and rooting for their "team" are able to see the consequences for their actions. You think we would have pulled out of Nam without the help of journalists and photographers? Whether you like it or not, pics open up eyes to reality. War is no longer abstract and that's a good thing. Skip, post as many pics as you can(while the gov still allows you to)!
Yes, these images bring the truth HOME to you. And reactions like helterskelters prove not only that they're effective, but that they generate much more of a response than news reports that say "today in Iraq 50 people were found tortured & murdered today". That is SOOOO easy to ignore, but the pictures AREN'T! Helterskelter could've just ignored them too, ignored the entire thread, but no, KILL THE MESSENGER seems to be the knee jerk response of some people. I say, AT LEAST YOU'RE GETTING the message now. BTW, there ARE some good things to read in this thread too, esp. about the reactions of children and parents to viewing these images!
But what they do not provide is who was at the hand of these peoples deaths. Was it a suicide bomber in a market? Or a US bomb? Most here will argue that there is no difference. That since the US created this war, they are resonsible for every horrible thing that is happening in Iraq. The removal of a brutal dictator has caused lawlessness, instability, and the increase in Islamic Fundamentalists that are trying to push THIER agenda. These pictures are proof that war is horrible, visual proof that the Iraq War has caused the horrible death of people. These pictures are propaganda at its best.
Yeah, no one has denied that they are being used as anti-war prop by visually showing the effects of the war, so what's your point?
No but it along with this response reflects a greater disregard of other people. It's no big deal to you because you can access the information so I'm just supposed to shut up. Granted it's a most trivial of inconsiderations but it's an inconsideration nonetheless. I requested you provide some sort of transcript but instead of taking the smallest effort to mitigate the error you tell me to get a grip... a grip on what- that you're not going to be considerate enough to give us anything to comment on besides a link that most will not be able to access? It seems that I already have a white-knuckle death grip on the obvious conclusion that you figure anything you do is gold and how dare anyone expect you to be considerate. While you DID say 'sorry' you did nothing to clarify your commentary of how folks reacted to the photos and commentary you posted in your private cliquey little web club. You didn't even edit your post to remove the link so I must assume you want members here to register there just to see how some of the members reacted to the photos. SPAMMER. Oh wait... YOU did that.. that makes the action golden! Some folks here want to impress all on how globally responsible they are and will happily step on a soapbox to preach on how global leaders must do this and that to make things better but have no problem in being inconsiderate in their everyday life creating the undercurrent of tension that makes life anything but peaceful. I reiterate: kindly provide a transcript of what was said so folks here can react to it without enrolling in your college facebook site or edit the post and remove the link.
The point is that Skip said these pictures generate much more of a response, which they do. They are propaganda at its best. There would be no difference in a news headline "dozens of people jump from the WTC to escape the heat from the fires", versus showing the dozens of bodies that were splattered on the concrete. Or giving a statistic of the number of abortions performed a year in the US versus showing a picture of an enormous pile of over a million aborted fetuses. Not too hard to figure out. Pictures incite emotion, no matter what message you are trying to spred.
