I'd like to see a graph in correlation with farm subsidies, and in the case of the US corn ones specifically. Food in the US often comparatively cheap, and when eating out the portions huge and the meals also dirt cheap.

Some of the reasons for our leading the BMI index might have something to do with the way our kids are raised. I have a daughter in High School who is required to take P.E. but the only requirement she has to pass the class is that she change into her gym clothes for class. These kids are not required to do anything else. So everyday you'll find a group of kids who are supposed to be in gym class and all they do is change clothes and then sit in the bleachers and yap for the entire class. What kind of BS is that. Then they go home and get on their computers or whatever.

When I was a kid, the first thing you did after school was change clothes and then get the hell out of the house and have fun.

Lunar, it had to start somewhere. If not America, someone else would have figured all this shit out and begun the change. Plus, as somebody else mentioned, many other cultures want to adopt our way of life.

People may not give a shit, yes, but giving up and being cynical, rude, and nasty about it isn't going to help. There is still a good chance you can touch somebody out there if you are willing to work hard.

While this part is true ^^^

    As for this...

See how you feel in a couple of years time.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of really great people out there, millions of them I'm sure. But that doesn't change the fact that the majority of the population (at least in North America) is a vapid blob of selfish consumerists with cro magnon sensibilities.

Edited to ad: I also am painfully aware that I am not excluded from being part of the problem.

While I can agree with you that some people seem to resemble humans from that time period, I'd like to think that we as a species have evolved beyond it.

we do not "seem to resemble humans from that time period"

we are homo sapiens sapiens, as were they

if you brought a cro-magnon infant to wherever you are and raised him or her, they would turn out similar to other children in your sphere of influence

    our "evolution" is illusory

note that i basically agree with you re the desire for more human "evolution" in social terms, but in physical terms and capabilities i'd bet we haven't changed enough to make any difference in the last 100,000 years [or however long], and i'd also bet that they were capable of societal niceties that might embarrass us today

    from that same wiki page:

weaving, painting, calendars, get the picture?

I suppose I didn't go far back enough in time to properly convey what I was trying to say, forgive me, I'm not that familiar with our evolutionary timeline. However given that you agree/know what I was getting at, I at least got my point across. :)

    USA! USA! Haha!
Actually the American people are not as good as some of us think we are, but we are not as bad as the guy who started this thread believes we are.

What I was talking about was that we the hippies did do something about the consumerisum, meterial fedish, greed and racisum. If ppl would have listened better there would have been more changes made. I was just illustrating that change can and has taken place. The answers lay with the younth of our world.

It will take the cooperation of every man woman and child at the same time to do what is nesscessary to make the world a better place. We did it in the 60s, where are the hippies of today and what are they doing to uninte all ppl.

Remeber when you start bashing me that Jobs and Gates were both hippies and if it were not for them you'd be watching TV.

If we could all just get some of that magic back we could finish fixing the problems we all face as Human Beings. Hate was/is never the right answer. Love is the Key. Love of self and of others. Ppl hate becaus they have no love or cant accept the love before them.

I know, Let's all be hippies and then we can all get along.

32 pages and the part that has me curious the most is the legality of having a 'No Americians/No Anglos" policy.

Well, we could be, but the fact is that we're on the internet. :artist:

And I basically agree with shameless heifer. I haven't read through this whole thread, but let me say this: Are Americans violent? Some of them are, but I'm in Europe right now, and I got attacked on the street for the first time in my life here a couple weeks ago. Are Americans fat? Pretty much. Come here and you'll see a big difference. So many people are walking and taking public transport, burnin' off them calories.

Are Americans lazy? They're absolutely working their butts off compared to most Europeans.

You left out the part where most of you hippies cut your hair, sold your ideals for comfort and wealth and settled for mediocrity and greed.

I knew there was more to that story...

Don't forget after all the soul selling by 1984 a lot of those people are what helped Reagan win a landslide.

Let's also not forget the hippies were most of the time suburban kids from the most prosperous time in American history.

    This.

There where some before, and some after, but the classic hippie is a rich("Upper middle class") white kid with nothing to worry about who was exempted from the war by going to college. They may have been free of prejudice toward those from other backgrounds, and may have had the right idea, but it's still what they where.

On that note, last night I watched "SLC punk". It was interesting, and very correct for the most part. ("that note" because of the ironic backgrounds of most counterculture figures)
