Well, I'm not an American, but I'm still gonna weigh in. I love sex. I love love love good sex. Great sex is amazing. Sex in inherently about pleasure, how can you not want something that's inherently focused on pleasure? For me, there's also something precious about it - I don't get it all the time, I've spent more of my life being single than being with someone and I can't do one night stands. So when I get good sex, it's a rarity and I indulge in it. How is loving sex any worse than loving going out every other weekend and getting tipsy/drunk, partying about. How is it any worse than smoking pot regularly?
my number one priority when i was 13-14 was finding someone i could have regular sex with. i held out until i found that someone, then i stayed with that friend for nearly ten years. i had loads and loads of sex, loved every second of it, and stayed monogamous. sex isn't something i've ever felt bad about, dirty about, or anything like that. i'd rather my daughters found someone to fuck on a regular basis than self-medicate daily.
I don't think anyone said sex in itself was bad. The problem is a society of dumbed down people who know little more than fucking like rabbits. This country is more dumbed down than it has ever been, and sex plays a big part in this because it distracts people from things that are far more real and important than sticking your dick into someone for a few minutes of pleasure. That's why we have people in this country who cannot locate Iraq on a map, or even tell you who the vice president is. We have been minimized to a bunch of stupid animals who act on impulse. Everything has been reduced to sex and entertainment. Nothing has any substance anymore. And it's not just the US that is obsessed with sex, it's the entire westernized world. It's no different in England or France. Perhaps some of you should try reading Aldous Huxley's 'Brave New World' to see how endless sex is used to pollute people's minds, making them more easy to control. MONKEY-SEE, MONKEY-DO.
well, i've always considered us to be a pack of dumb animals, so there's nothing new there. i think sexual repression may be a tool for the advancement of society, but thus far, i see no real benefits of advancing society. i think the world woulda been better off if we hadn't advanced so much.
Awfully well stated, I completely agree. Matt has pretty much summed up my general point... But yet again, the question is... why does this happen? We did cover the media and pleasure factors, which are both givens... but, is there anything else to it?
boredom. nothing truly worth fighting for. too much time, too much money. just like the roman upper classes back in the day.
If Americans are just like the Roman uperclass, then why don't they purge after eating a feast just so that they can eat more? Seriously though... good point, I guess boredom does make people have sex. It's an easy hobby to take up too. I have met lots of girls who practice often, yet seem to get worse at it with time.
Well John Lennon said in Working Class Hero: ''Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV'' ... I think he summed it up pretty well.
Oh yes. Most of the oversexualisation in those countries generated in America in the first place and only got there through the American media.
Sex isnt the problem The Problem is all those Homosexual Mexican Immigrants Giving back alley abortions while burning the flag...Also Porn
I don't mind that its oversexed, I like sex so I must live in the right country... I was thinking of moving to Amsterdam, but apparantly its not oversexed there
Western Europe is much more oversexed then the US, So is much of Asia. But the US also has a deeply puritanical base. That means that many people here have a very comnflicted and kind of non sensical view of sex. That with an overextended media that focuses on advertisement average indecies... The media will try to make everyone think that everyone elses life is glamerous and sexy, so if you don't buy their shit, you'll be incomplete. If you can see through that, it's not a problem. But sex is a wonderful and deep expression of passion that all mammals require, and it can be part of an expression of true love.
Yes, sex is great... that is not the point of the thread though... No other culture focuses so much on sex as a driving social force... that is my point.
In the 1800 and 1900's while America was going through civil turmoil, much of middle europe became a haven for social liberalization. That included complete relaxation on laws and atitudes regarding purity. Even before this, the norm of society since the middle ages in Europe was for married couples to be married for social reasons, like securing land and wealth between couples. In many many cases, the norm was to have lovers on the side.
i was a virgin till a month or so ago..maybe 2 months now...i could prolly be a nun...sex really isn't that big a deal for me...but i'll probably change that....really i'd much rather make out with someone hot and heavy than have sex...i'm a master maker outer :H
What about Southeast Asia? Sex industries dominate a much larger percentage of GDP in many countries then the US. Often illegal ones. or on an alternative end, sex is much more of a driving force in countries like Saudi Arabia. The abolition of anything remotley sexual on conditions of horrific punishment is much more of a driving force in society then we have.
