well, oz, since the usa is the only nations on the north or south american continents to have "America" in it's title, it's just shorthand. better than the ridiculous united states of americans, or united statesans. that just sounds silly.
yeesh, simple way to define it........wot does it say on your passport? it's the name of a continent and a country we are discussing...this is elementary school geography you may have more babies....but ours learn to read an atlas
well, i can't think of any columbians chaffing at the bit to be called americans... actually, that's a bad example...how about...
indeed. i think it's something that only peole on the other side of the pond have trouble with, in their desperation to find yet another thing about americans to bitch about.
nope. we only refer to "yanks" as those above the mason dixon line over here, typically the coastal region.
the lower 48 + alaska/hawaii + us lands abroad. or do i get to call myself a brit just cause i want to?
you need to just let go. 99% of the people in the americas who aren't actually americans are thoroughly pleased with that state of affairs and nomenclatures.
let go of wot? it makes no diff to me....it's the kids i feel sorry for...don't even know which country they live in apparently......or are unaware of an existance of the rest of the continent..... American English is better than the original....lol....try again when they can define a country from a continent.... or are nomenclatures, colloquialisms, slang and false information the defining factor in a langauge?...lol...too funny!
hang on. when did i say american english is better than british english? i'm just saying that people who don't live in the usa are typically perfectly content not to be called "americans." who wouldn't be? you need to back up a little. something starting out silly ended up kinda bitchy, dontcha think?
*blinks* i am.....erm, kc, if yer gotten a pm from someone named Oz! it ain't from me and i only do personal via pm *shrugs*
