American v British English..??

well, oz, since the usa is the only nations on the north or south american continents to have "America" in it's title, it's just shorthand. better than the ridiculous united states of americans, or united statesans. that just sounds silly.

 

yeesh, simple way to define it........wot does it say on your passport?

it's the name of a continent and a country we are discussing...this is elementary school geography

well, i can't think of any columbians chaffing at the bit to be called americans...

nope. we only refer to "yanks" as those above the mason dixon line over here, typically the coastal region.

the lower 48 + alaska/hawaii + us lands abroad.

you need to just let go. 99% of the people in the americas who aren't actually americans are thoroughly pleased with that state of affairs and nomenclatures.

American English is better than the original....lol....try again when they can define a country from a continent....
