hi there duckandmiss im not so much understanding the point in you naming off events in history where the stupidity and ugliness of the human race is so obviously portrayed. are you deeming my people 'just some of the many'? cause i can honestly say that is how i am taking it. well? whats your point? do you hold a thought? or just feel like acting obnoxious and trying to 'defy' your way to a point? stupidity sucks oh yeah, what are you trying to prove in this post about America?...do you not know what this thread is about?
Damn, also my family was not even in america when this was going on, should I feel responsible for this?
I am southern Kentucky Cherokee; my maternal great-grandfather is George Bluecorn, who fought the federals with Lone Watie in the Okalahoma territories. They NEVER surrendered. But, we lost the battle; I don't dwell on it. Change is natural, so I have adapted and adjusted; now I can live. I could choose to die; I could look backward, and make it my mission to regain all that was lost, and kill - sacrifice my life for death - killing is easy. But today I take the more difficult path of living, today I choose to live.
its not about responsibility sir, its about acknowledgement and lessons derived from such a horendous display it seems your holding back brothah
My point, if you were not able to deduce it from my simple word changes in your quotes from my replies, is that the manifest destiny is an idea that has transferred throughout cultures, and only takes the name manifest destiny in the American scene. Every nation on this earth has commited an atrocity in its past, many nations have commited atrocities strikingly similar to the plight of the Native Americans (many polynesians have lost there land, or have been converted and lost their land in many different countries). What makes America stick out in your mind's eye? I personally feel no guilt for what happened to the native americans because I am my own person and i live my life in a good and just way and would not find myself swept up in the same destruction of a culture (just as now I do not support the McDonaldization of todays cultures). I mourn their losses, just as I mourn every evil deed in history. But my family came to America in the 30's, well after anything you are mentioning. And while we are on this then, what exactly is your point on this issue? Stupidity does suck, please try to think about what you post.
Thanks Marc - the next time I'm down your way, I'll bring you a copy of great-granddad's journals. After he was arrested and placed in the reservation he dictated his journals to my great-aunt, who wrote it all down in English. The journals are funny in some places, but they are mostly sad; the truth is usually really sad. The part about when he met his first wife is some of the funniest stuff I've ever read.
Namaste my maternal grandmother is full blooded Sioux (Cohorn), my paternal grandfather [(Nickell)a direct descendant of Pocahontus...yes the Princess] and grandmother (Wheeler) of the North Carolina Cherokee...Snowbird....im sure you're familiar well, I ask not to make assumptions of me. I have excepted the reality and truth of the situation. I posted this thread only as a mere 'test', for lack of tranquility of thought right now, to uncover and show how even the 'hippest' on the surface are wrong in their thinking. Do you think I expect this thread to inspire Americans to repent and pack up and move out, handing the land back to its people? I think a group of people might have thought this. You see the responses, take from it what you want. It was a mere way of uncovering the thought and outlook of people. Were the answers really hip from the hipsters? Deeming things off on 'the way things are for the ....civilized?' I can assure you I choose to live. I enjoyed your last statement, a beautiful thought....I recognize that passage ..... is it your own? I am of the Native American people and always will be, but I would also like it to be known that I am of NO people....rather ALL people. I have taking the teachings of my family and my own history and I am here for the helping of mankind, not of a particular group. I choose to live also....I choose to live for my purpose. The human race is in the midst of great terror....no I do not mean Al Qaeda.....I mean a terror of mind....invading people of all places in the world. Our world is sick. The call for progression is long over-due. Until people realize the mistakes made from the past, the mistakes made every day, no steps can be taken. Peoples' pride and assurance of their own 'right' way of thinking is the doom of us all. I ask anyone who has posted &/or read this thread to consider....don't just deem things off on 'history' or 'the way things go'. Everything is right there in front of us all. Reach out and grab it....compassion, love, progression, kyndness, understanding....all these things are right in front of our faces ... why dont people just stop! Bring thought into the forefront of your mind...thought and love for everyone. Please, make the choice to no longer be part of this world's superficial stupidity. What kind of a spark do we need to change? Is it really not enough yet? whatever you call it, hippiedom, rainbow, point is....learn it and stay fuckin true to it THINK much pride, respect & thanks is put down for your grandfather
That thought (statement/passage?) is my own. If it was a historical quote or passage, I would cite the source. Everything that I write is 100% original. Hoka-Hey hok`sila!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most countries are guilty of over consumption and domination. It doesn't mean it's right but to single out America is unfair.
No I don't, and I never will. I don't feel sorry for blacks for having been slaves, I don't feel sorry for the irish for being indentured servants, I don't feel sorry for the jews for the halocaust, I don't feel sorry for Japan for Hiroshima, I don't feel sorry for Iraq for this recent war, I don't feel sorry for America for 9/11 or any other atrocity that happens in my life time or after, and I don't feel sorry for myself for any hardships I have/will endure. That's the course of life. Shit happens, learn to accept it and work with/make the best of what you're given and life will be a lot smoother and worry free for you.
What's done is done, let the history books be written in such a way that we learn a moral lesson from the past and work to prevent it from happening again. The treatment of the American Indian is one of the biggest scars in our history, but how could it have been prevented? Attempts were made to slow down our westward expansion and nearly all resulted in miserable failure. Let's face it, making this a sovereign nation from one coast to another was on the agenda all along. If we're so obsessed with making the world more civilized then we have a duty to act more civilized. But it's a waste of emotion to feel any guilt for what happened in the distant past.
i'm not gonna apologize for jack shit. if not for those people intermingling forcibly i'd not be here. i like being here. conquering each other is nature's way of staving off inbreeding. thanks grandpa!
