I would be Benjamin Franklin. If the founding fathers were around today, Benjamin Franklin is the only one who would be a hippie, and no I am not joking, he would be a total hippie. As it is he was a nudist, and did all sorts of crazy experiments. There is nothing anywhere to indicate that he was prejudiced towards and group of poeple in the slightest, except that he didn't like fear mongering idiots and bigots and tyrants and such.

All true, except he was also an unabashed entreprenuerial capitalist. Owned a newspaper in Philedelphia, had shares in printing presses and other newspapers in many of the colonies, profitable printing contract with the state government.

Guess he was different things to different people.

Steve Jobs is a nudist? Instead of Apple, maybe he should have called it Figleaf.

As long as the Figleaf logo wasn't too small, they would have done OK.

Aah, but owning a newspaper today and owning a newspaper two hundred years ago are very different things. Two hundred years ago owning a newspaper was seen in much the same light socially and politically as being a college professor is today. He was a capitalist sure, but again two hundred years ago capitalism was considered to be fairly radical. The harsh evil shit being done by todays capitalists was, two hundred years ago, being done by the nobility and the landed gentry.
Capitalism is not in itself bad, harmful, stuffy, "establishment" or any things else like that. The problem with capitalism is that it is the capitalist and solely the capitalists who control most of the western world at the moment, there is no balance of power and so the capitalists get to do whatever they feel like doing and to hell with everybody else. But I digress.

Ben franklin was neat, he was naked and wrote a short essay on farting. Also he invented the indoor hooded cookstove or "Franklin stove", the lightening rod, bifocals, and the odometer. He said good things like "there was never a good war or a bad peace" and "What you seem to be, be really" and "Who is rich? He that rejoices in his portion"

So? Since when is being a misguided socialist a prerequisite for being a hippie?

Doesn't surprise me, considering they founded a capitalist nation, one would expect them to be capitalists no?
