I agree we are an arrogant society, arrogant and imperialistic, but that is the foreign policy as practiced by our "leaders", that doesn't necessarily reflect what the majority of us as individuals are about.

I spent a number of years down south in Georgia, and, while I didn't care much for the hypocrisy of the bible thumpers, who would justify their soap opera lives by going to church on Sundays, I found that the folks up north in the mountains (hillbilly territory) were, for the most part, pretty cool, so long as you kept an open mind and treated 'em with respect.

The United States is always my first choice for a holiday destination.I dig American popular culture.I know there are many dark sides to life in America with guns & poverty etc. but you can't let that distort your belief in the 'American Dream'.
As for the perception of America abroad- have you noticed that the people in other countries who slag off the U.S. are wearing jeans, are holding a can of Coca Cola, have one ear wired to hip-hop,rap or jazz & will probably buy a Bruce Willis or Clint Eastwood DVD on their way home.
Certainly 'Dubya' has been one of the worst advertisments for 'American Democracy' since Nixon, but a fresh face in the Whitehouse next year could repair much of the damage.

Oh yes...I agree... there are some great-hearted "rednecks". But the one's I'm referring to are Myrtle Beach rednecks.....alcoholics, methheads.....I guess "white trash" might have been more of an appropriate term.

And I do love some bluegrass................

I agree with a lot of what you are saying.

You do not have to live in a communist country to have been the victims of a mass media that spits lies and half truths. The ultimate war on religious radical terrorists, is a spiritually one. While bullets and bombs have a part to play, FAR too little has been done to change the hearts and minds of those who want to kill us. You may ask what can be done to change their hearts and minds? May I be so bold as to offer the content of my website, Woodstock and Dead Sea Scroll Connections, to start....well, I guess I will be that bold anyway. It is a bit of a long story, and I have already explained it in great detail in other posts, here at hipforums. You can look up an old post of mine here at hipforums called, psychedelic drug pushers, for an explaination.

If the bias and elitist media will not tell the world what is on the minds of American people, then we must speak louder until they do.

True. Unfortunately, most Americans are too distracted with their personal lives to be concerned with the crap that they're receiving from the media, and it's sort of a vicious circle: the more crap they feed us, the more apathetic we become. However, the media is a profit driven industry, so if the majority of the American people demanded the truth, and backed up their demands by boycotting the media, their ratings would drop, and they would be forced to respond by providing us with journalism of substance.

The world doesn't hate Americans, they hate the American Government. There's a big difference there, although some people so blindly follow the government that it's like their married lol
