So you pray for god to kill Al Qaeda at night and take solace in the fact that the military is fighting a war on drugs and terrorism?

Nope, I take solace in the fact our economy tanking because of terrible economic mistakes from everywhere from the government to the private sector that crosses into criminal at some points takes down the whole world economy with it.

Well everyone's at first, but mainly Europe's along with the US's in the long run, so finally whitey is getting what he deserves.

It's called Karma, and America has accumulated a LOT of it, and now it's payback time...

Now let's go back to the topic of this thread, Egypt.

Anyone remember the LA Riots (Rodney King riots)? Aside from people getting really hurt, it was pretty interesting.

BFD, Tom, we have had 12 years now of the PATRIOT ACT in a STATE OF WAR, or didn't you notice?

This is what has allowed our gov't to trample our privacy rights, grab our crotches, read our emails, see all our electronic transactions, eavesdrop on our phones, arrest us and detain us without due process, etc. etc.

All this because WE ARE NOW A POLICE STATE. You don't seem to have a clue as to what we have lost here in the USA.

But ignorant people don't see that, do they?

Oh that's right you're a Canadian, WTF do you know! Quit posting about a country that you seem to not be well informed about.

That's kind of rude. Canadians are not all just a bunch of uninformed idiots. If you've come across some that don't seem to know a lot about American issues, it's probably because they simply don't give a shit. Believe it or not we're not overly exposed to American problems up here, life goes on outside of the USA. Most Canadians don't really give a damn about the ridiculous problems to the south.

That was nothing! You shoulda been around in 1968... The long, hot summer they called it... Look it up! See what happened after the assassination of MLK and Bobby Kennedy... It was as close to revolution as I have seen in the USA.

I remember the slogan from the period: "Burn, baby, Burn..." as America's inner cities burned due to riots.

Actually that looks like 1965, not 1968 riots in Watts.

You betcha. Read the Patriot Act.

Everyone on this website should watch all six parts of this video before posting about American Fascism and the police state.

And if you think things have gotten BETTER since 1968, you are believing an illusion.

Today, we are once again involved in an "unwinnable war", that is costing the US economy too much, as the poor and middle classes pay for war that benefits only a few multinational corporations and the military/Industrial complex. Nothing has changed since 1968, only gotten worse.

America has learned NOTHING since then. It continues it's Imperialism, without regard to the human costs. America is still all about GREED, not about FREEDOM or EQUALITY. Those are the illusions, the American Dream is a myth anymore for all but the super rich.

Now back to Egypt. I've got a thread to split...

In part 2 of 6 of that '1968' video it says that after MLK's assassination the riots got particularly worse and that the military as well as the National Guard were employed to "meet" the rioters and protestors. I thought it was against the law for the government to use the military against the people, is it not?

Yes, in L.A. alone 14,000 military personnel were deployed to stop the riots there. It also happened in Chicago during the Democratic convention. They had machine gun nests setup in the streets ready to mow people down...

Happened in Berkeley too with just students peacefully protesting about a PARK that was going to be developed. One student was killed by the gov't during that showdown. And guess what? The students won! The park still exists!

Showdown over people's park in Berkeley.

Once upon a time it was against the law. Not anymore. Got it folks? The US military force can now be used against YOU! It's not just an Imperalist force use to conquer the resources of foreign countries anymore or to backup dictators. It's now ready to be used upon the civilian population of America at any moment. This is part of the Patriot Act and related legislation, some of it still secret.

This part of American History has been CENSORED from most school books. Can't have kids learning how their parent's generation tried to have a revolution and change this country's course.

Uh the national guard has routinely been used to put down riots all through America's history, this is nothing new nor anything created by the Patriot act.

Wasn't just nat'l guard in some of these incidents. Regular army troops have been called up and will be called up again as needed. Don't forget how many Nat'l guard troops are fighting overseas now. THAT wasn't supposed to happen either. It makes it MUCH EASIER for the Feds to take complete control of the country when the Nat'l guard (usually under the command of governors) isn't around to defend the states from the US army.

    Get a clue, Syd.

BTW folks, the USA has been in a "State of Emergency" since 9/11/2001. Bush and Obama have consistently renewed this designation. So that gives them all the power under the Patriot Act to do WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT TO! Got it?

So essentially the PATRIOT ACT is just some legal rhetoric in which they give themselves permission to put our rights and laws that protect the people on hold because there's a boogey man overseas...

In lamens terms they can ass fuck us and not be expected to call the next day...

    YES YES YES !!!!
    Now you're getting !!!!!

The way to fight this is to wear clothes that show you have no weapons.
    I recommend a speedo, a simple t-shirt and sandles.

    Write on the T-shirt this.
"I declare that I'm peaceful and will not hurt anyone unless threaten or attacked."

And if they lay a hand on you,
    Start throwing bricks.
