is it just me or do you also feel asthough we are witnessing the rise of modern monarchy in america? it seems like the few percentage of rich are getting rich and the large percentage of poor are getting poorer, soon i believe the rich will enforce the control they have and make the lower class pretty much be their peasants. i don't know what do you think

More like a serfdom, with corporations being the lords of the manors.

pretty much i just despise what this country is becoming i wonder what 'corporate' would do if all the working class went on strike just for a day i doubt that it would ever happen but it would be interesting

'poor' people work for 'rich people' most of the time.

What do you mean by enforce them to be their peasants? ...doing what?

monarchy= rule by a single individual (or a single individual representative of sovereignty)

oligarchy= centralized rule of a few individuals in control of the masses.

america is an oligarchy. in fact, probably a more precise descriptor would be plutocracy: a system wherein power resides with the wealthy. a democratic plutocracy? depend on your point of view i suppose...

enforce by utilizing the police when they go around slaping people with charges for petty things just because they can, also by raising the cost of living and paying people nothing so they can't even afford to live a happy and peaceful life and if you can pay and go into debt, they've brought back debtors prison in some places that has been outlawed since 1876 or around that time.

    thanks for the correction auto

    What charges?

Are we talking about 'the rich' or politicians?

Do you mean being put in prison for failing to show up for court/violation of court orders?

just petty theft, small pot charges, and the various others there are

not just the rich or politicians but anyone who has power to make a change no matter how big or small

debtors prison is for those who cant pay money or are in debt and cant do anything about it so they go to jail just because they cant pay

I can't see the CEO of McDonald's lobbying Congress about those issue.

    ...including the weather?

I know what a 'debtors prison' is. Technically they won't be in a 'normal' prison for their debt - it will be for some other reason as a consequence of the debt.

he would if it concerned his buisness, thats the point im trying to make corporate bigwigs dont care about anything but making another buck.

the weather you cant change, just the things that people are capable of i meant

i doubt that they have seperate prisons just for those people

Why shouldn't a 'big wig' not be concerned about petty theft? Theft is theft. It wasn't 'big business' that made that illegal. Isn't it in the bible?
Ofcourse some don't care about anything but money. And?

You said the rich were increasing the ecost of living. The cost of living increases due to a multitude of different levers - including the weather. To only blame 'the rich' is a little unfair. But then you don't - kinda watering down your original point, imho.

So why go on about 'debtors prisons'?

because much of the people that get caught are people that need to steal just so they can advance their position a little bit, and what would 30 bucks do to a multi-million corporation if anything they're commiting a pretty much fraud by importing all their cheap products from china and indonesia etc. and resaling it to americans for top dollar
true you do have a point well in that case when it gets cold in chicago they like to jack the price up on heat so they can con another dollar or when there is a natural disaster they'll raise the price of exporting fresh water etc, etc
the prisons is just one of the points i was trying to make. my whole idea is why does our constitution say one thing then when congress comes across something they dont like it they amend it or write a new law, its more like this country's politics is watered down

So stealing is ok because it aint much really and a big company can afford it cuz they are committing fraud anyway cuz they import stuff from China and sell it at a mark up? If that helps thieves sleep at night, fair enough.

It might be because things change.
I think the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution might have been a good change.
Also, citizens interprete the constitution to suit themselves.
'So, sir, why have you a semi-automatic weapon in your car?'
'Screw you, it's in the constitution.'
Another amendment: Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
What about: In District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), the Court ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia.
A few citizens might like that.

theiving from theives why not. hypothetically if you have 3 kids and run solely on food stamps no welfare no nothing not even a job and yet you still are a college graduate and its the end of the month you have no more food are you just going to just sit there or are you going to do anything you can to feed your kids, it pretty much like that in this economy maybe not as extreme but on some level its the same

some of the amendments yes are fine and i agree with some no but what about all the laws and regulations we have to abide by just because someone says we have to, we should all have enough common sense to know what to do and what not to do there is NO trust in society anymore no one helps each other out. and then we always have to watch our back because if its the end of the month and the cops are below their quota they'll arrest you just so they can fill it they will find something to prosecute you with, all am saying is that this government is WAY to restrictive and thats whats driving this country insane if they would loosen up on the reins and give the people the chance we'd be a hellava better country

Well a monarchy means one person is in charge. I think the word you're looking for is oligarchy, which would be a very accurate description of what America has become...

Well, you would certainly have to make some profound life-style choices
But you have decided not to take food stamps and not to take any welfare.
If you have no savings and there are no jobs around - you really are in trouble.
Does that justify stealing from others? - I would say NO.
You can justify it anyway you like, you are still stealing.
I understand some wish to justify their own choices and use 'big business' as the whipping boy.
I personally would not take my frustrations out on 'big business'.
I've decided to have three kids.
I've decided not to take welfare/food stamps.
I should take that responsibilty and live with it.

Well, that's convenient but completely understandable:
I agree with some things but not others.
I agree with things that benefit me but disagree with the things that don't.

'We' should, but quite clearly, 'we' don't.
It's a bit of a sweeping statement to say nobody helps each other, but I can see if you are not receiving help you would think so.

That sounds like a bit of a conspiracy theory to me - but I literally have no idea if it is true or not.

    This sounds true, though:

    There are no quotas.

What many departments have is a "minimum standard of performance" which dictates a number, usually low, of tickets that should be written during a month assuming they are out there doing their job.

Keep in mind that most jobs had performance standards. Sometimes sales people can't find the sale and sometimes police officers can't find the tickets. (Although that's rare... swing a stick and you can find someone breaking a traffic law.)

If the officer doesn't meet the requirements one month, command staff will watch their activities to see if it's due to the situation or the officer's lack of work ethic.

Trust me... any number set forth in a performance standard is low and can be pretty easily met by an officer out on the road.

Well, if you want the 'freedom' to steal anything you like from anybody - I think that's a 'freedom' too far. I'm not sure what 'freedoms' you want, though.
