Looks like Vegans want a cause they want to feel oppressed. Please spare me.
You are just as ignorant as a White man bullying a Black man.
So what if people eat meat. Does not give you permission to think someone is bad. Hypocrites!!!!

"You are just as ignorant as a White man bullying a Black man."

so now because i'm a veggi i'm as ignorant as a racist? sounds like another angry omni trying to group veggies together. i don't force my diet on anyone, and i don't think that i'm better than any meat eater. most veggies are like that. i'm sick of being pushed into a group with people who are completely unlike me, there are of course psycho veggies, but here's a thought... there's psycho omnis too!! there's psychos in EVERY group that you can think of! if you don't like to hear veggi opinions then PLEASE explain to me why you frequent a veg*n message board?

I totally agree. If anything omni's ALWAYS try to forece meat on us. Not us trying to force out diet on them. I alot of the time hate bringing up the fact that I'm a veg*n becuz I don't want to listen to people try to convince me it's not right. That it can't be healthy. Granted there are those that when they see someone eating meat they might make the comment "Ewww! Carnage" but not everyone. It's a lifestyle choice. Which is one of the great things about this country. No matter what we do have a choice. There are extremes to every group. I can understand what the person that syarted this thread is saying though. Meat really is shoved in your face evrywhere you go in America. As for people telling him that shit happens and he need to figure out that people are forced to fit in. That's BS. No one is forced to fit in. That's yet another choice. It's not always easy to not fit in but if you're strong enough in your beliefs you wil make the CHOICE not to.

Back to the thread......I'm sorry to hear that you don't like it so far;however, I'm sure it'll all work out for you in the end.......good luck, and welcome to America. I would have to agree that there are a lot of things I don't like about this country but I'm still happy to be a part of it....well most of the time anyways.

Dont get me wrong, I like it here. The town Im in (crystalstarr, Im in Ohio) is really scenic and quiet (the students havent started arriving yet, I got here early) and the people are allfriendly and nice.

That said, for those omnis who claim that their diet isnt forced on us...
Compare the number of ads for meat and the number of ads for fruit. How much publicity does it get. Even the few restaurants and fast food places that have veggie options hide them in a corner of their menu. So you you may not shove it down my throat, but its always in my face. Still, Ill get used to it. Its a test and so far Im passing with flying colours.

compare the number of meat eaters to veggie eaters. Do you really wonder why there are more ads for meat eaters when something like 95-97% of america eats meat? The fact is, the ads for meat are on things like mcdonalds, who are selling a product...they are not ads attacking the veggie lifestyle. There is a huge market for meat eaters in this country, and very little for vegans and vegetarians.

Mcdonalds is selling a product, a hamburger. If you dont think there are enough veggie/fruit ads, you should take it up with your favorite carrot farmer/distributor.

To claim that these ads force anything on you is dumb. Ads for women's products are not forcing them on me, why is seeing a mcdonalds ads bothersome to you? If it is, dont watch it. I dont torture myself by listening to ads about tampons and unmentionable creams...dont torture yourself by watching a mcdonalds ad.

That is fucking stupid to say! It makes absolutely no sense at all.

What do meat consumption and patriotism have to do with each other?

Go to any of the European countries and you'll find that most of them consume the same amounts of meat, if not more.

So if the Germans and the English eat a lot of meat, does that mean they are doing it to be "patriotic"?

Please, people, think before you speak.

Well, not quite. usually, G-D is used by members of the jewish orthodox community, and strict christians. I can't say I've met anyone who does that. However, the term "veg*n" is used on the internet as a euphemism meaning "vegetarian or vegan" It's a catch all phrase which includes all members of the non-meat community.

But of course, you already knew this.

Anyway, I'm a British geezer, and in Britain, vegetarianism is quite a normal lifestyle. I wa sin the supermarket t'other day, and they had free samples of beer and pork pie, so I say "Well, I'm vegetarian, so I'll just try the beer" when offered samples, and i did indeed try the beer. It was fucking delicious. Anyway, I digress, the point is that in Britain, if you say that you're a vegetarian, then no one will get on your case, save a few old farts. most people will be like, "Ah, you're a vegetarian." rather than lecture you about protein or somehting else which they clearly know shit all about.

Now, I've heard what it's like to be a vegetarian in America off of the internet, and it fucking scares me. to many Americans, vegetarianism is a political choice, and in a country where political affiliations are akin to religion, then it's easy to see why so many vegetarians are harassed. Also, in England, it's pretty much expected of any eatin gestablishment to cater towards vegetarians. At the very least, I would expect any eating establishment to have a "token vegetarian option" and in most cases, I would expect more than just one vegetarian dish. I hear that in alot of places in america, when you go out to eat, as a vegetarian, you may find that there's naff all on the menu for you.

chatting online to americans who aren't part of vegetarian communities, when i do tell them I'm avegetarian, they'll often freak out, and throw a fucking shit fit. I find it quite odd. They'll start talking about motherfucking protein: Life I give a shit about protein. It's not something I need to worry about, being an eater of food.

As for health issues, I'm the last person you'll see giving ashit. My last meal was a pizza, and befor ethat, i'd been snacking upon chocolate. Right now, I'm drinking a can of lager, so I'm the last person to lecture anyone about health. I know that you can be healthy whilst eating meat, I won't deny that, but if any fucker wants to get arsey about vegetarianism, and deny that it can be a healthy choice, (I say "can be" because if you feast upon curry and lager like i do, you ain't exactly gonna be a healthy bastard, are you?) they'll get the verbal equivalent of an arse kicking.

But to me, there is so much wrong with american culture, in regards to vegetarianism. Half the americans I've spoken to online are absolute cunts when you bring up the issue of vegetarianism. Most of them don't understand it, and need it fucking explaining to them, and to add anothe rnon-veg related snide comment about the shitness of american culture, the legal drinking age is 21 there!

Yeah, but there a bit of a difference - adverts for women's products show girls prancing around riding horses and being active and attractive while their discreet product helps them enjoy life. Perhaps if they showed the actual product in use (as they do with a McDonalds ad) you wouldn't be so blase.

i'd love to know what restaurants all these vegetarians go to that dont have veggie options....

Most "American restaurants" have a scattered amount of dishes from other countries...almost all have meat free things like pasta, soups, etc...not to mention your standard salads and very frequently i've been seeing things like gardenburgers popping up all over. Sure you might not be getting your tofutti or eggplant parmesan...then again, you eat an alternative lifestyle and you cant expect everyone to conform to your lifestyle. Sorry, but thats how life works. restaurants are not going to transform their menu to cater to the overwhelming minority of human beings..its not worth it for them. There's pizza, there is pasta, there are soups, there are various other things which are veggie friendly, what more do you expect really?

I always do wonder why all these omnis freak out when you say you're a veggie..i guess they are akin to the veggies who freak out when you tell them you're an omni...

edit: sorry frozen, i misread your post.

No trust me, i dotn want to see women's products in use..i'd rather them make up some fairytale of all these women being happy while having cramps then see them in actual use.

The fact is, the thought of those products makes me squeamish the same way mcdonalds does for you. But i am not going to attack those ads or claim they are forcing anything on me. Have you listened to those ads? They say a whole lot more then than just showing women running around happy. Anyone who sees an ad for a tampon can put 2 and 2 together, and when you use your imagination, its far worse than seeing some guy take a bite out of a hamburger.

I dont see how any ad can force something on you. You can always change the channel.

ok, but whay can't they just show people running around being happy in a maccas ad instead of what they do show (eg, an ad on here for bk shows a cow being lead into a furnace, lots of flames and distresed mooing and then a gross flame grilled beef pattty. It's gross, and yes I can and do change the channel, but it's not alwasy that easy - adverts and pictures of meat/corpses are on so many billboards, the real thing is right in your face at the supermarket and society in general is just so...meaty.

I just happen to find that attitude towards killing appalling.

lol...you forgot Starbucks! I swear...I went to Washington DC to look at a college a few weeks ago and there was one on every street corner...everytime my dad and I saw another we'd yell "Monopoly!" and laugh. Its crazy.I'll bet you could feed half of the starving world on the amount that the average American spends on fancy coffees in a year......I like a chai every once and awhile myself...but some people have these fancy Starbucks, $4 coffees a couple times a day...its bananas...

Arg...I just can't stand our brainwashed society...ok I'm ending my rant...

    Continue with your thread...

I really think the whole of mankind will someday all be vegetarians. It is the course of nature to become more wise and in tune with the earth. Besides, it will become necessity if our population continues to increase as it is.
