Yeah, German is rather easy too. I like the way German sounds though. So...strict....If you know what I mean. My mom used to learn Russian in school. But she forgot most of it. Learning Russian used to be obligatory...Stupid communist regime
right after the ww2 german was obligatory in russian schools hitler regime? i think japanese or chinese are far more difficult than russian anyway
that's because they all are germanic languages russian - not it has its charm, but man, i would never say it's easy i wouldnt have enough will power to do that
well yes...just not everyone feels the need to (like in england) or have the opportunity (developing countries with low level of education)
thats what I think. However, of our 7 forms in our year, people wise, about 3 classes chose a language.
Hey, is French obligatory in UK ? What about Latin ? I'm interested in other countries educational systems.
Nope. No languages are. Well thats how it is in public schools. Im sure private schools make it mandatory. Latins not even an option for the majority of students. Its a Gifted and Talented thing only here. I got the option in like year 8 but said no. For others we have french, German, and Spanish. Some kids are advised against taking languages. I took french. And don't even bother talking about teachers here. Most of the good teachers are now retiring or moving to a place where people want to learn.
I'm just dumbz American with no culture or viewpoint beyond my face. Durpee-doo. *I'm hungry too. Thought I would add that.
I know. Most people aren't interested in languages. I think if they started learning from primary schools, and parents cared then maybe it'd be different.
I had two years of mandatory Spanish class. I didn't care for it much back then. I still don't. I think the language is ugly. I feel like Enrique. I can read Hebrew, but I only know a bit of what I am saying. That's pretty strange.
I agree. Here a foreign language is obligatory even in primary schools. I think thats a really good thing. But some people just don't see a need to learn another language. Okay, maybe English speakers don't need to know German, or French or whatever language....and thats okay actually. I can understand that. But what I can't understand is apathy and unwillingness to learn.
Speaking with Russians I can pick it up better. And some study courses are good. But textbook based learning can be soooooo tedious. In school , I hated languages -cos English is so popular. And our teachers were atrocious.Plus it means u have to give up something else- a science ,business or whatever. But later I got interested in learning Russian properly -after meeting Russians and because its my heritage.
Thats more to do with the whole attitude to languages here. Kids are ruthless and foreign teachers, language teachers and the like are better targets than english ones.
I remember when I used to read RIA Novosti regularly...I got soo much information that is simply not available in the U.S. media--- I can empathize with some of what neponiatka is saying here because I've seen elections in Brazil be manipulated by the U.S.: All they had to do was "signal" that if such and such a candidate won, The Treasury Department (through Wall St., or vice-versa) was going to dump the Brazilian currency--- which, in weak economies means a very real and immediate crisis. I'm talking about bank accounts being suddenly wiped out. The same thing has happened to Russia in 1991 and again, since the collapse of the Dow Jones in the last couple months. Americans have not experienced this kind of severity since the Great Depression--- I have, as a child. So it's too much to ask of them to understand. What they care about is abortion and "freedom of the press" and other moral issues because they have food on the table. It's not so easy to care about liberal ideals when you're starving. Or when your country's borders are constantly threatened with disintegration--- as in the case of Russia.
