I guess I was 25 or 26 when the internet took off. Even then it was limited as everybody had dial up connections and 56k modems.Sometimes I think I'm better off for becoming an adult without it. Thoughts?

How would you define "better" in this scenario?

The internet is a mixed bag of nuts. The internet as a learning tool for children is wonderful, but on the other hand I can't think of a single benefit to growing up with social media.

Perhaps but I am fairly certain that no Sex Education class prior to the internet was as good as the Sex Education the Internet provides.

Social Media lets you know when bands are coming and seeing gigs should be a big part of youths lives as a gig is always fun. :)

It just depends how you use it.

I use the internet mostly to read stuff, contribute stuff on a few forums, look at porn, listen to/download music & of course....post silly bollocks on facebook!

If you get properly addicted to the internet or if you get cyberbullied a lot as a kid, then yeah, obviously that would be a big negative.

I also didn't grow up with the internet as a kid...soooo...I can't really say for certain how well it would of worked for me if I had the net as a kiddie.

I guess I was bullied a lot as a child and had Facebook been around I'm horrified at what would have happened to me. I was bullied because of my nerdy looks. No, I wasn't always the handsome man in my avatar :) Kids would have torn me to shreds even worse on the internet. And by better, let me put it to you this way. When I was a kid we knew when we were talking to a girl. We didn't have to worry that we were talking to an old man who was pretending to be a 15 year old girl.

OP, No, we are not better off.
What we used to spend hours, days, weeks or more researching in Public Libraries as kids now takes mere minutes with <Insert favorite search engine here>

Imo kids were better off growing up in the 90s and a couple of decades before. Now you're not doing your kid a favor by letting it grow up without the internet.. unfortunately. Times change. Parents have to adapt. I for one would rather raise a kid in the second half of last century than in these decades: and yes social media and changing technologies like the mobile phone are the biggest reasons for that.

90's and first decade of this century were awesome for rock. The industry... meh. It deserved it. Complacent bunch. Adapt or good riddance :)

I personally love the internet and yes it's waaaaay easier then going to a library. I feel like I know so much more with the internet that without it.
I almost feel like if I were to not use the internet, then I would feel more secluded and out of the loop if you know what I mean.
Everywhere you go, people use the internet for things, even in store coupons, or assignments at school. Teachers will tell the kids to google things (in class!) and if you don't have a phone, your an outcast! It's sad but true. It definitely has its pros and cons but I think it's something we have to accept.

Biggest Kapow for me as far as introduction of new technology over the last 4 decades was the introduction of the first playstation, 1994

Mobile phones, handy, but meh you just text crap to people. The internet, or more specifically faster than dialup internet, also handy, but meh again, just end up texting crap on messageboards or watching cat videos on youtube.

None of that compares to that jump we got when PS1 arrived, that jump from the hedgehog on megadrive to whoa full awesomeness suck you in , stay up for 24 hours playing the same game thingy

If one were early teens in 94, I think they got it best

There was a thing called "Minitel" in the '80s in France. You had a little console and screen and you could text people. That was its sole function. There was nothing else of its kind in the World. It must've been cool at the time.

Well, i was growing up in the 90s, so those things were already creeping in step by step. However I do remember climbing trees, building snow fortresses, generally being outside more. TV was more relevant. I think that the concern about the impact of social media and internet is much overrated. Every generation has something that their parents are afraid of. Well, unfortunately, this generation has the internet.
