i have just come across a treasure full of dust. the group is called ALTHEA AND DONNA . Reggae Group Girls from the 70´s. Any one ever heard of them? It is unbelievable how many songs from them were used by todays musicians p.diddy, jayz, sean paul etc etc . Just listen to their songs I bet they will sound famiiliar to you. althea & donna - YouTube
I remember them well (circa 1977) = Down to earth duo, whose career - though short lived - perhaps showed a romantic innocence that before the professional polished prominence of produced pop groups, allowed simplicity to have success
seriously? were they famous in the UK in the 70s ? how comes nobody knows them these days? It is amazing how many of todays songs, melodies derived from them. Every 2nd song was copied
I think it just goes to show a good hook, beat or melodies hold their own as either in stand alone or sampled format Around the time of Janet (Silly Games) Kay, Barry (Sideshow) Briggs and a few others who fell into the "One-hit wonder" bracket. This is how I recall them 'strutting their stuff
It's boring data input, but as I get to work a couple of days from home I get to do a lotta radio listening throughout the day - and then at night too so I guess I'm fortunate
thats cool wolf angel make sure you open the window every now and then and let fresh air in , must be cold in manchester now
wolf angel, found a great song today for you, it is from that area, 70s, you will like it, it has been on repeat here for 4 hours, cant get it out of my head :...(
That takes be back - Listening outside the local dance hall on a Friday night Here is a Trojan Classic -IT'S TOO LATE by Laurel Aitken - a nice little ditty - Hope you like
wao thanks, have not known this song either, downloaded it btw since you are in the UK: reggae band "aswad" is british, they have been playing reggae since 70s , and still playing
and the famous islands records has its headquarters in london, people tend to forget that London has had his hands in reggae music just as much as jamaica
Yes ASWAD have indeed been 'around' for a number of years, they have a loyal (though now ageing) (original fans that is) with Brinsley (Double Decker) Forde starting his career off early a significant founder member - Don't Turnaround still regularly played
that song goes more towards pop direction wolf angel aswad kind of transformed a bit over the years, as i took notice i would like to buy me one of their albums though, but of their "roots reggae" genre rather than "pop" 1 album of "the ethiopians" is also on my list
