Apologies man, didn't mean to offend ye, look i didnt even spell his name right. [IMG]

I don't know who he is, i have to be honest, i like lots of music though, not just cliched hippy bands, though you can hardly say that about experience dude, come on! [IMG]

Bobby vega, so thats the guy out of sly and the family stone, cool bro, if i'd have known his name, i honestly would have said him, i tell ye no lies, he was the first person that sprang to mind, he's well funk. I'll try to check james jamerson out, you obviously know your bassists man, peace.

actually i meant larry graham as the awesome bassist from the family stone, vega never played on anything substantial of theirs. sorry i got offended, the funk brothers just don't receive nearly enough credit for all that they've contributed to music.

also, herbie hancock is a jazz pianist, not a bassist. you're probably thinking of the bass work on "headhunters" though, right? that was paul jackson.

So true man, i nearly imploded when i first heard the sped up version of higher at woodstock(on video), i never saw music in the same light from that era, it pioneered funk, no doubt about it bro, they deserve credit for a lot of the beats i listen to today, James brown is mini sly! hip hop owes it's life to it, disco, trip hop, house, northern soul and many more, Larry graham, bass funk master!

yea man, headhunters is exactally what I was thinking of.... thanks for the correction, I love that cd... wasn't really sure who the bassist was... btw do you know if bootsy collins did michael jacksons early stuff.... like pre thriller work, as far back as the early jackson 5.

Agreed... and I believe McLaughlin is also very underrated... Nobody ever seems to know who Mahavishnu Orch is. One of the best bands during the 70s too, but they were all overshadowed...

Totally agree with that as well, well underrated, I'd never been truly high until i heard inner mounting flame, John Mcaughlin's fame seems to have been sucked into the zappa memories some how, much credit to zappa and all but Mahavishnu orchestra were the Don of Jazz impro by far.

    Orsino....you think I DON'T know Mahavishnu???
I can't tell ya what is selling at the stores, but I can crawl all over that!

How did you get so well versed in the good stuff, young Grasshopper?

My vote for Bobby "5 B4 Funk" Vega was for his work with Steve Kimock and the Turtle Island Quartet.
Never really like Sly... never paid much attention.
Really, I only know about something if I happen to see it.
